I need help with building this car to be mine.
I’m not new to the car scene, but I’m new to building one & would love any advice/feedback on your experience with the same year & model I have going on. I have found a 1st Gen 04 G35 3.5 L auto/slap shift. I don’t know if it’s V635HR or V635DE yet. I haven’t looked at the throttle body, unless knowing it’s an auto makes the difference between the two engines? I’m self taught & still learning. But it’s for sale out my neighborhood for 3.2k (the body & interior needs much love. No leaks from the sunroof/seals. Just needs some dents & deeper scratches removed/repaired & new paint & some leather replacements on the seats & a really good detail cleaning.) sooo not bad for a 20 yr old car around my area. Sooo if you know info on how to help for the body damage that would be appreciated too. but it does have 164k miles… I got it for 2.4k obviously I had to talk him down after really doing the expenses for the next couple days to make it worth the personal investment. I guess he tried auctioning it but didn’t get what he wanted for it, but I still got $100 off of his lowest price. But I’m very very happy about this car, mechanically it runs & drives amazing. No codes. Shifts super well. I felt very good about purchasing this when I was test driving it & checking it out. Doesn’t redline easily. I can tell there is some additional stats, but I wouldn’t know what? Stock it makes like 270hp? There is a new cold air intake (seller doesn’t know what one) & a y exit pipe (again doesn’t know the brand) it seems like this car was made by a young male in HS & didn’t know how to take care of it/ why getting the y pipe. The sound is supeeer loud, which I’m cool with & love the popping after letting it down shift (I know it’s not good for the engine though) but I want something more validated to my taste, just not so sure what that is yet since I’m learning. I do want to race her, (for fun/for myself) so I’m going to add some aluminum parts to less the weight. I’m thinking the drive shaft & the wheels? I was told the Y exist was installed because of a leak of some kind. What do you guys think that could have been? I’m sooo tired of dealing with emission codes & issues with my daily 😭 Again the seller didn’t know. It needs a new radiator fan or the sensors need to be adjusted/replaced. Im jacking it up this Sunday. I notice it overheating in idle after driving it for some time -20 mins & in a drive thru or waiting to get gas. I first noticed it needs a new coolant reservoir as well & I thought that could be the overheating so I added coolant & all was good for the week then again it overheated so I’m guessing the fans too? They don’t start with me pushing them while I have the car on. I have turned the heater/defrost on while driving it for about 30 mins & nothings overheating. So is this normal? Turning on defrost turns on the fans? I haven’t checked for myself yet. I keep her in the garage at my fathers, also work about 50 hrs a week (helps with the car expenses😌
& don’t want to drive it much as it is. I added about 250 miles noticing these minor issues. So I’m just trying to gather as much information as I can before I start working on her. I do want to add performance, but not so much to where I ruin the block. Is there certain fans I should get instead of OEM/OE since I want to add more HP, torque, PSI, ect.. And any other information for the exhaust? Or adding a turbo? I heard single turbos are great for the health of this engine, I don’t know much about the sizes yet either. I just want something to build & to learn as a graduation present to myself. I don’t know much **** to do with the evap systems- air/fuel ratio? So much stuff comes into anything involving some performance parts & I want to make sure I get it right. is it worth it to spend such money on high quality parts with a motor with higher mileage?

I really did love the sound in of the tomei on q50 & then add some headers should I do the same? I do want to race her, but I know she’s a drift car, so it’ll obviously be on those twisted back roads (for fun/for myself) also the suspension on this things, she can not take any scrap, or pot hole in the world. So what can I start to look & expense for that? I’m going to add some aluminum parts to less the weight. I’m thinking the drive shaft & the wheels?
