Tints Removal?

Hi all,

I recently purchased my G35, and just moved to New Jersey from New York.
The car has 35% tints all around, but I'm guessing I have to take them off the front windows since I've just registered the car in NJ and am getting the car inspected soon.

I'm wondering if I would be able to take the tints off myself, or would have to seek some help with removing the tints.

Thanks very much in advance,
JP

You may be able to find a local inspection station that will pass the car without making you remove the tint. I've had friends with tint in NJ who have done that.

Yeh but its not just tint. I dont' know about NYC and NJ but MA is really cracking down on tint. I got pulled over for my rear window and my quarter panel windows at 1:30am one night driving home. JUST FOR TINT. My front windows were down thank goodness. The cop ticketed me.

MA state law specifically states, two front windows (driver and passenger), windows directly behind the two front ones (whether it be quarter panel or regular rear passenger windows) and rear windshield must be above NET 35% tint (light emittance). If windows are tinted by manufacturer and is not aftermarket applied film...then the law does not apply.

My 3rd offense for tint...in 3 years...$250/ window!!! $750 TOTAL!!!!!! I fought it and brought it down to $250 but that's after I paid another $250 to get my tint redone within specs.

Its at your own risk....

you can do it yourself, i've done it twice on my cars...only for passenger windows though not for the rear window i think (the big rear window) because of that thin micro lines...gawd damn it i forgot what its called, i just woke up sorry
and the proper way to get rid of the sticky residue is to use a spray bottle of detergent mixed with water, just like how you would stick a diy window tint...
here's a simple writeup: take the window tints off, spray the detergent mixed with water on the window, then wipe it with a clean cloth....
if i were in FL, i would drive down and help you out with it....good luck and let me know

You can do it yourself; it's time consuming and a major pain in the *** for the rear window because it's hard to squeeze yourself in there and be able to angle your hand down in the bottom portion of the window, but it can be done. Basically spray some water on an edge and razorblade it off, then if you're lucky you can pull entire portions off with your hand. Should take a good day to remove, and usually you end up with some residue from corners you can't angle a razorblade into. If I had to do it again, I'd probably pay someone.

Either go to a private place or just pay to get it done. I removed it myself for inspection and it's a major PITA. The film comes off pretty easily, but the glue residue is a nightmare to deal with.

im in california... u know how **** they are about tints cant have them at all in the front, i took my civic down to the DMV they didnt say nothing and i had 30% all around. they just mainly look at the Vin to verify the car, and the odom. they didnt tell me nothing about tints/diff engine/straight pipes/after market stuff. i was kinda shocked :P. i would just chance it and take it see if they say anything, u could always keep your windows down doubt they will roll them up.
