I had 20% tint on my I30, and want to tint the G, but a lot of people are telling me stories about how they are giving tickets left and right. Please write:
1 What % tint
2 Where you got pulled over
3 How much was fine
4 or if you got out of it, tell us story

Sorry man. I've been lucky with no plate, 35% tint, and clears with clear bulbs. I think it's pretty much luck of the draw. Knew one guy who got a ticket the week after tinting and I know a guy who drives around with 20% and has never had a problem in 5 years. Depends on your area. A lot of ricers? That sort of thing. In Baltimore it's not a big deal, in Rockville it is.

so you're in maryland startertan? my g has md registration but i live in nj, does that mean i dont have to put the front plate on?? [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img] and of course i can get 35% all around, not like the dumb jersey rules with nothing in the front and anyhting in the back

In MD you HAVE to have both the front and rear plates. Like I said I've been lucky so far. What's the law in NJ? If you don't need a front plate in NJ then you'll probably be golden. If they require a front plate then I don't know. They'll probably stop you but I don't know if they'll write you a ticket or not.

Front plates are required in Jersey. If you have Maryland plates, but live in Jersey, you don't need a front because its an out of state law, just like people living in NYC with Florida plates can't get tickets for limo tint all the way around.

yea thats correct, in jersey you must have front plates cause cops here are morons. luckily my family partially moved to md but still have a house in nj and since car/health insurance is cheaper in md we switched everything to down there. i'm in md maybe less than 10 times a year so i doubt they'd give me any problems anyway. the rest of the summer i'll be in central jersey and then back to school in pennsylvania in the fall.

so when i go to ray catena for them to put my plates on, do i just tell them not to put on the front? or do i need to sign something since in nj (where we bought it) it's required to have it put on?

1. 5% rear, 15% front
2. Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold Township, Jackson, Wall, Ocean, Tinton Falls, Eatontown, Colts Neck, Ocean Grove, Spring Lake....all I can think of right now (all in NJ)
3. 44 dollars every time
4. Never got out of it, not even once...just paid the fine and continued rockin the tint. In total after 2 years of tint, I paid over $1000 in tint tickets (28 tickets). Thats almost once every 4 days that I was pulled over.

Lesson learned: My G has no tint.

It was dark as hell, I sold it to get the G35. I was pulled over for tint and not having a front plate (it was in the window though, cops are just picky in certain spots) every last time. Ive earned myself 2 tickets besides those 28 in my life, a speeding ticket in the G and an "obstruction ticket" that was really a 52 in a 40, the cop just wanted to be nice in my old turbo eclipse. A few cops pulled me over to measure my ground clearance (I was dropped 2,4 below stock, which is pretty low as it is) but that was a rarity. Oh well, I miss having tint on bright sunny days, but besides that, its really not that bad staying legal.

Well, I have 20% on sides and rear. Havent had any issues yet (knock on wood).

I was just pulled over in VA a couple months ago for my Jeep however. Thats like 20% front and 5% in the rear. Had the tint for 5 years and never any issues in MD. VA State trooper tacked it on to the 19 over speeding charge.

Good thing is, VA doesnt make you pull it off. I heard MD does?

Yes, MD does. They'll issue a service repair order, and if not corrected within 14 days (i think), they'll suspend your registration.

Get pulled over a lot, normaly tell them that its my parents car and it came like that from the dealer. The pba cards help too. They always ask how can you see out of the winshield, I tell them its ok to see out, you just cant see in.

My question is, if you have "legal" tint percentage and they pull you over, how do you prove it and can they still give you a ticket?

Some cops usually have a little device that checks the amount of permissible light through the tint. If they give you a ticket based on judgement and you really are legal, you can just fight it at court.

Also in NY State, where any "dark tint" is illegal (limit is 70% which is nothing) If they don't have the device, they'll take your licence, and hold it up to the other side. If they can't read the name, the tint is too dark.
