NJ Owners ever buy a car in NY??

I was wondering if anyone has any experience living in Jersey and buying a car in NY...

1. Who registers the car? Do they give you a temp plate and then register it an all for you like they do in here Jersey?

2. Do they still give you the 4 year new car inspection sticker or do you have to go to DMV here in NJ with the car and get a regular inspection done on it?

I only had the experience with a new dealer. they give you a temp plate. In my case it took about a month for the dealer to get my NJ plates. But NY dealer cannot give you a NJ inspection. You have to take the car to the NJ inspection station and just show them that the car is new and they give you a 4 year sticker. You dont have to pull in for inspection. To tell you truth, unless you are saving alot of money on the price of the car, its not worth the hassle.
I got my second car from a NJ dealer and it was much smoother. Hope that helps.

Couple years ago, it took my NY dealer few hours to get temp-in-transit plates + few days of insurance. Then I went to NJ inspection (5 min) and to DMV to pay tax, plates and registration. Color and no options (MT, base & no sunroof) were important to me + significant saving over local NJ dealer.
