Looking for a Tint Shop Near Philly!

Hey all,

Just a few questions regarding tinting.

I'm looking to tint my G35 Coupe and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I live in Philly, but am willing to travel over to NJ or DE. I'm thinking about 50% on the sides and back - any reason why this is a good/bad choice? I think the legal limit is 35%, but I could be wrong.

Also, are Infiniti dealerships better places to get tinting done with regards to quality, warranties, etc in case the tint job comes out bad? I've been reading around and got the impression that some places do a half-assed job regarding bubbles, the dot-matrix issue, etc.

Finally, how much should a good tint job cost? I've read that it costs around $150-200, but any reason why I should pay more?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I got my tint done at Sunsational in Bridgeport which is right next to King of Prussia. I got 15% on the front windows and 5% on the back. Cost me about $240. They guarentee their work and if their are any problems they will fix them or redo it. I recommend them and I know that one of my friends from work got his windows on his G tinted there too.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'll definitely look into it. I've also heard decent things about a place called "Cindy's" in DE.

Any other ideas?

Got mine done at this place right across the south street bridge in Philly....a couple other Philly G's got theirs done there as well, no problem with the dot matrix....I got 35% and its pretty light....I don't think there's a reason to do 50% at all.....If you post in the Northeast section, you'll probably get more replies....

Where exactly are you? If you're in Chester County, check out Colbert's Car Care in Thorndale. They do a great job and there's a lifetime guarantee.

I got mine done at Colberts Car Care (here in Thorndale) back in August. I did 20% all around, and it looks really good (black on black). I think I paid $175. They did an awesome job. They do dealership work (tints) for the dealers around here (Nissan/Honda/GMC).

The tint they use is Solar Guard brand. PM me if you need more info or directions to their place.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I live right in Center City, but I'm willing to travel around. The only reason I was even considering 50% was due to the tint laws. Originally, I thought PA allowed 35%, but unfortunately it looks like 70% is all PA will legally allow: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/PA/.

Anyone have pics of 50% or 70% tint? I'm not even sure if the car will look tinted at those numbers. I really don't feel like being ticketed for my tint being too dark, but the darker tints definitely look sweet.

The legal limits in PA is kinda in a grey area, as long as the cops can see you thru the side windows, you'll be okay.
I chose 20% coz it looked so much better on a black car. Knock on wood, so far, so good, no cops had stopped me yet.
The first few times driving pass a cop, I would roll my windows all the way down (thank goodness for the double auto roll down and up mechanism). Now, I just don't care anymore, but I do tend to lean closer to the window, just in case........ LOL

You are right about the 70% (for front windows). 70% of light has to be able to be transmitted through the glass. This level of tint is basically what comes from the dealer (you know the greenish tint).

I've done 30% and it is very light. You can easily see through. It's not dark at all, although you can tell that it is tinted. I've also done 20%, which I really like. It's dark but not so dark that you can't make out silohettes and on bright days, you can still see in from outside if you are looking in directly, but at angles, it looks black. A dark interior will also make your tint look darker.

I've only been pulled over once and it was the day after Christmas (I think he was trying to meet his pull over quota for the year since traffic stops are all they really do in my township). Anyway, he pulled out his light meter and it read 3% (it was 20% tint). He should have cleaned the window first, though. He told me to either pay the fine or pay the fine and plead not guilty and show up to the hearing with the tint taken off and they will drop the citation and I'd get my money back. I just paid it, pleaded guilty, and left it on. That's the only time in the last 5 years driving around with 20% tint. I don't think you will have a problem in Philly since there are so many cars with tint down there. I think Philly cops have more to worry about, unless they use tint as an excuse to pull you over so they can bust you for something else. You may have problems when you head out into the boonies where the cops are itching to pull someone over. I don't think cops are as aggressive about tint as they use to be. Just don't drive like an a** and draw attention to yourself or give them a reason to pull you over and you should be alright.

Tint shop

I got mine done at a place called Eric's Alarms. They have this machine thats hooked up to a computer that cuts the tint according to online specifications for all cars. No hand cutting neccessary. Place is very clean and guarentees everything. The place is in northeast philly on Grant Ave. I got mine done at 20% all around and it looks clean. He charged me $200, but that was almost 3 years ago. Tint looks exactly like the day it was put on. I've only been stopped in Philly once for a warning, but I think the cop just wanted to check out my car. Hope this helps.
