When we took the 280, I figured you'll get there sometime soon and ramped it back up to 70-75. Funny, we both showed up within a minute of one another anyways. So it all worked out good. You should still consider a fastrak. It doesn't cost anything to have and rarely use, except maybe the one time initial transponder deposit ($40) but that was years ago.
Only when you cross tolls is the only time it costs $$. I use mine maybe twice a month or less. For me, it's one less thing I have to worry about (bridge tolls)
It works down in LA/Orange Co too, with that toll frwy (241/242??) off the 91 express. In fact, I think it works on any California toll roads/bridges now.
