hello guys,
I'm currently in Los Angeles area and I've seen lots of Gs and Zs around here
I just got accepted to Berkeley University and will be attending the school starting next year Spring semester (January 2008)
I was just wondering if you guys could provide me some info about the area..
how's the neighborhood around Berkeley?
how much will it cost me to get an apartment?
(one room or Studio with parking spot)
(is there any place that you guys recommend?)
how's the weather throughout the year?
(I'm trying to get a convertible car, but it won't be worthy it if it's cold 24/7)
how's the road? cuz it's very crapy in Los Angeles
and is there something that I should know before I get there?
I'm just kind of worry because I'm pretty much starting off a new life by
myself..so I'll really appreciate if you guys provide me some info.
thanks for reading this and hope to meet you guys even though
I might not be driving a G
thanks again and have one nice day!

congratz, weather there is nice not too hot in the summer cause its on the other said of the hill on my side the east bay it gets pretty hot. not too cold either, roads suck in the bay area. berkeley has its good and bad spots.
I live in Berkeley.
Neighborhoods are great. You may want to stay away from the flats past San Pablo though.
Depending on what you want, an apartment could cost you anywhere from $800-$1500 or so. More if you want luxury. Craigslist should be your main resource. I rent a 2 bed house for $1825.
Weather is great as well. It's why we pay the big bucks. Summer has been around for awhile, temps from 70-80. Minimal rain this year. Convertibles are perfect, although not as great as I'd imagine LA to be.
Hope that helps.
Quick edit: I'm a resident of Berkeley -- not in the school.

congrats! im a 2nd year and have been driving a slammed G around here for the past year. disclaimer: i am **** about my car but taking precautions has kept me from getting broken into and i've only gotten 1 ding so far. most of my friends who drive here (g35, evo, m3, etc) have been broken into or dinged/dented plenty of times.
- the neighborhoods around berkeley (near campus itself) are great. very nice college feel. BUT it is could possibly be considered one of the worst automobile environments possible. potholes everywhere, big dips, crappy pavement overall. in my 2 yrs here i've only discovered one portion of a street with potholes big enough to bend wheels though (on telegraph ave). also keep in mind parking is near impossible during the school year and people seriously park bumper to bumper, or try to. i've seen bumper frames hitting bumpers countless times and many people hitting cars while parking and not giving a crap. also, if you're driving a lowered car you can bet you won't be able to get into almost every apartment's garage, or ANY parking garage around here for that matter. don't ever park for too long on the street, especially at night. i usually limit myself to 30 mins in a single spot during the day and 10 mins at night unless i have a good eye on it. once i caught a guy circling my car and putting on gloves (when i was in a PUBLIC area) and getting ready to break in but i caught him in time and he ran. also be careful about getting a convertible if you're ever parked outside at night.. it might get cut open and your stuff might get stolen.
- weather this year, like acolyte said, was great. rain season didn't last for too long and wasn't bad. last year though it was raining for weeks on end for a few months and it was a nightmare.
not trying to scare you or anything
. im sure driving something other than a G will be a little more convenient

hey man, congrats on berkeley.
i just got in myself as business major. will be starting this summer. send me a PM if you'd like to make a friend at berkeley.
but as for apartments near campus, for a studio your looking at about 800-1200. one room apartments are 1000-14000.
those are prices close to uc berkeley. it'll be a bit cheaper if you go a bit farther away.
