I'm not sure on frats yet... I don't know if I'm that type of person; might just end up getting an apartment during sophomore year (since everyone moves out of dorms after frosh year, right?). Also, I'd still need a place to keep my G... and a frat seems out of the question, because I can just imagine...
"Hey, Kevin, do you mind if I take your G for a spin?"
"Can I drive your car?"
"Can you take me to the market?"
"Let's go eat, you drive!"
... etc.
It's not that I'm a selfish douche, but rather I'd be annoyed to hell with it, and my car would get beat up [I'm thinking].

I don't think I could handle it if the keys, and subsequently my car, disappeared because someone thought it would be funny/wanted to drive it.

I'd take the car up if I had a good, safe place to keep it. That's why I have to get up on looking for an apartment about a month or 2 after I get up there (that's what you said, Gene, right?)
That's a sick shot. HDR?
Isn't there a bandwith limit?

Kevin:
- Social life tends to die down a little once you move into an apartment (relative to dorms), while joining a frat will definitely enhance it. It just depends on how much you want to get out of your college experience.
- The one I always get is to take people to get food (everyone gets sick of dorm food by the first month or two)
- I don't think I even need to explain the influence a G35 will have on the girlies here (although I must admit, there isn't much potential up here
).
- You can get garage spots at apartments without actually living the apartment (that's what I meant earlier). There's usually plenty of vacancies as long as you look. Just get settled in for a month or so and see if you want to bring the car up
.
- The internet in the dorms is BLAZING fast, but there is a bandwith limit (8 gigs a week). If you exceed it the first time you just gotta take a test to get your connection back... I forgot what happens after that but I think you get 3 strikes (penalty gets worse each time). I remember downloading songs in seconds and movies in just a few minutes. Back when I played a lot of CS, my ping was never more than 5

Hey Norcal-ers, I have a small favor to ask
I put up a photoshoot thread in the Socal forum because I have nothing to do here in the next week and could always use some extra cash. If you guys are bored feel free to bump it or leave a little feedback. Much appreciated!

I had a very positive experience with Alpha Epsilon Pi at UC San Diego and I really regret waiting until sophomore year to rush.
Good luck to you with whatever you choose to do and have fun!
One of these days I'm going to have to meet up with you guys. These are from my trip to the Central Coast/SF for New Years visiting my parents.

].Gene, thank you so much for this information.
Are there frats that will let you join but not actually live in the frat house? It seems to me like that would be a very difficult atmosphere to concentrate in. Obviously the hook-ups for parties would be sick, though.

And
I didn't previously get that about parking my car in an apartment garage without living there -- thanks for clearing that up. That definitely makes it somewhat easier. What do you use your G for? You never drive to class, right? And if that's true, is there any reason to purchase a permit to park on campus? I'm confused about that one.

Ping no greater than 5?!?! That's... incredible. Also, for books -- any good place to buy them used? Or just the bookstore? I'm hesitating ordering them right now because I'm unsure as to where the best place is to get them from.

Hey all, if you want me to move this convo out of this thread (since it's for photos and not for discussing Berkeley

I guess that's chill; I've just met some people who don't know how to appreciate cars.
And

for the girlies... I've heard several times that potential = fail. -___-;

Yeah, dorm internet was great. People would think you're bots if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't say you're one.
Last time I checked, the limit was 5gb a week, wasn't it?
I mainly use my car go travel outside Berkeley. Other than that, the bus is usually your friend. Or a bike if you can keep it from being stolen/vandalized.
Also drive on the mountain right behind Berkeley. It's great.

Hm... any way these posts could be moved to the monthly conversation thread?
