Do I need to notify DMV/Insurance of a color change?
My car is getting a paintjob and I am wondering if I need to notify the DMV/my insurance so that the registration/insurance cards are updated accordingly?

All the vehicles I own and owned/sold/bought/registered/etc. Never was the color asked for. Color not on title of ownership or registration.
I'll say no color doesn't matter.

That's funny, DMV in Fremont told me I didn't have to. Still paranoide I asked a few cop friends and they said the same thing. Its been a few years since I acquired this info so things could have changed, but i doubt it.
The only info attached to your registration is the model year, year first sold, manufacturer, VIN, registered owner, and legal owner. Model, color are not on there. The only time color comes up is if it gets stolen, stored, impounded, etc. At that time, dispatch will enter the color of the car into the stolen vehicle system. If it was me, I would let my insurance company know if the color has changed or even repainted with the same color.
