Outdoor Fitness Activities

As the title implies, I was wondering what you folks enjoy doing with regard to outdoor fitness activities.

I gave up running marathons, shorter road races, skiing, and tennis due to battered knees. These days, I am relegated to gentler activities such as inline skating and hiking.

Have not used my road and mountain bikes in some time. Perhaps, I should revisit those two activities.

What's on your outdoor fitness activity list?

Edit (5.27.10): I actually had an idea for starting this whole thread. Many of you have joined us for the organized runs down to Santa Cruz. Those were good times. As much as the wife and I enjoyed the SC runs, I would rather not organize events of that size any time in the near future. However, depending on how this thread develops, I have an idea for a different type of event/gathering.

Building myself a fixie bicycle. Parts are currently being shipped. Probably going to hit up some trails (paved ofcourse) and race civics with it. =)

Excellent . . . I see many of the messengers in the S.F. financial district riding fixie bikes. They definitely haul butt through the streets. Be careful going through the turns on a fixie.

Outdoors I like to run, walk or go for a hike with my dog or take my road bike for a ride. Problem with the bike is I usually have to go alone. During the summer we spend a lot of time at the lake so I'm able to get quite a bit of wakeboarding in also.

I try to mix up the indoor and outdoor workouts. I workout with weights 2-3 days a week and add a couple cycling classes in. I guess in the next couple weeks I'll be adding a couple cross fit workouts to the schedule. Should be interesting.

Good stuff, Lisa. Appears that you are quite serious about your physical fitness.

LOL . . . If it ultimately gets you off of the couch . . . Yes, that will work. Now, get outdoors and get a sweat on.

Things are well on this end, Giacomo. I trust that you are doing well.

That is a beautiful road bike, which you have there. You ever ride over at Canada Road on Sundays?

you know... I have been meaning to ride that route.

My typical Sunday ride starts in SF and heads over the bridge into Sausalito all the way to Tiburon and back. Have you done the Paradise loop?

Running on the streets for 6.6 miles, 4 times / week - 2 consecutive days, followed by a day to rest the knees, then another 2 days. Also doing weights 5 times / week.

Andy, I'm signed up for this in October: http://warriordash.com/register2010_norcal.php. You should totally go for it.

I try, getting older is bad enough but getting older and fatter is not an option. Lol

I guess I'm going to start CrossFit in a week or so, my trainer left the gym and opened a CrossFit gym so I'm going to give it a try. A little intimidating, but I've done his Elite classes and he assures me if I handled that then this will be no problem.

Show off Beautiful bike, I think mine has cob webs from sitting the last month. Between the horrible winds, rain and a crazy work schedule I haven't had any time to ride. Hopefully soon though.

Wii can be a great workout, my daughter loves the dance game and she gets quite a workout doing it. I think it's awesome someone thought to make video games that actually get the players moving. It's a few years late, but better late than never.

Thanks. I hear you. The weather as of late has not been ideal. This one is my latest build. I started ordering parts in January. The wheels ended up taking 11 weeks to get here. You don't understand how frustrated I was. However, it worked out because we didn't have consistent good weather just up until recently.

Haven't ridden the paradise loop. Driven by it many times.

Back in my 20's and 30's your Sunday ride was my Saturday run, well, not quite. I started in the North Beach area. I would run down Mason St., hang a left at Columbus, right on Bay and head out along the Marina, run across the bridge and head back to the starting point. I think that was some 15 miles. Now, my knees will not carry me that far.
