Ticket in Fremont, CA for tints, clear corners, and no front plate. Help?
If you look at your headlamp lense, there is a tiny dot, mark or circle cast into it. That is the D.O.T. mark where the height is measured from. So all those monster trucks running around that look goofy with the 22" inch rims with low profile tires on....have probably been popped for having their headlamps too high and that is their best solution to lower them instead of changing out the suspension so they can get the ticket signed off.
Thanks for the accurate information chippie, your contributions to this forum are always appreciated (by me at least, immature punks will hopefully grow up one day to be responsible adults HAH)
I got one of these "front tint and no front plate" tickets just yesterday and here's my take on it. I'm from Sac by the way, so dunno anything about Fremont or that one cop. He sounds like he has a hard-on for import drivers, sorry for you guys.
I was doing the speed limit behind another car, getting ready to turn left. I see a CHP car up ahead of me pulled over (on the side walk) with his lights on. I think "OK, he must have just finished with someone, or is still on a call." So I drive past him with no worries. As soon as I do, he pulls out, cuts across two lanes and into the left turn lane where I'm stopped. So I, like an idiot, panic and put my windows down (32% tint, nothing crazy). Now I'm thinking "There's no ****ing way..." as I was watching a Honda Pilot driver gun his engine to beat the red light (mind you my windows were down and I could hear it)... and as soon as the light turns green, he puts on his lights. Great!
So... he does the standard shtick and tells me my infractions. The "ticket" that I got is not one of those yellow summons-ones, its just a white "get it signed off and send it in"-ones. He told me I just need to mail it in... so I thought "OK, then who do I pay and how much?" (This is my first tint-ticket and my first white one, I've honestly never seen a white one, thankfully I guess). I asked a cop friend and he told me its sort of a "warning" ticket... which didn't make sense to me at first since due to the fact that I "have to" take off my tint before I get it "signed off" then its not much of a warning. It just isn't a summons to appear. I guess?
Anyway, the funny part is when I told my cop friend about this ticket he immediately said "Let me guess, it was CHP?", I asked him how he knew. He said "Around here at least, the local cops and Sheriff's don't give a **** about these things unless you're already doing something else wrong, e.g. speeding."
So my quibble is why did he go out of his way to give me a simple tint/plate ticket while parked IN FRONT of a major intersection that is WELL KNOWN around the town for red-light runners. Was it my exhaust? Its axle-back, under 95db. Was it my gold wheels? Bling, I know. I wanted to ask him a lot of questions, such as "So... you're a rookie huh?" (Cop friend told me about this after he saw his Badge Number [179xx], but it was probably wise not to ask that) and "Why did you pull me over for this minor infraction and not the guy who was driving clearly over the speed limit trying to just barely make a yellow light?"
It just irked me that he clearly went out of his way to catch me, and yet the type of ticket he gave me would not benefit California's awesome budget crisis. What gives? Why give me this ticket at all? The only point of this ticket is to inconvenience me and have me lose the money I spent on the tint... assuming I was going to actually take it off...

I guess this post is just another BTDT, but I found the whole experience pointless and stereotypical... maybe he just needed another checkmark on his to-do list showing he was actually working that day?
PS: I love cops. Friends/family include cops and my best friend since 7yrs old is CHP (I haven't told him about this yet though).

I was driving home in Fremont, CA when this obese dick cop in an SUV pulls me over on Grimmer Blvd. He says I can't have any front tints and continues to walk around my car. Notices my clear corners (with amber bulbs) and no front plate. Writes me a Notice to Appear ticket with everything on it. He says the tints are not a fix-it ticket, even if it is my first offense.
How much do tint tickets usually run in the bay area? Is it true that tints aren't a fix-it ticket??
And oh yeah, his name is J. Rosette if anyone knows him. He's notorious for pulling G's over among other imports.

It's almost funny you guys in NorCal have a cop that evidently dislikes imports and you know him by name. The solution is easy here, when the ticket says to appear you can remove the tint (spray bottle/razor blade) and put your front license plate back on. This ticket might cost you a total of $30. You should have turned your lights on so officer Rosette could see your amber bulbs, that shouldn't be a violation. These violations are something we're all guilty of, front plate/tint but that's the game we play....

I was cruising by on temple st heading towards Hacienda in the City Of Industry area about 2 weeks ago. I was doing about 40mph on Temple, mind you my g sedan is OB in color and i have quad HID'S and it was about 8:30pm. A CHP was on the opposite side of the street parked with his lights off posted. I dont have a front plate during his time. I fly by and somehow he spots my missing front plate, Makes a u turn rapidly catches up to me and btw,( he still hasnt turned his headlights on) runs my plates then he eventually turns on all his lights pull me over. States front plate is missing, this is a fix it ticket blah blah blah. Me: No prob i will fix asap. Forward 2 weeks, i receive a letter from the court saying i gotta pay $174 for this no frnt plat bullsh!t. Is that redic or what??
I recently installed my front plate, took it to a chp and he said that 95% percent of these types of tickets cost about $25. I was hit with the max. No real reason why. The cop decides this when he writes you up.

A couple of things. First of all, you got a break. He did YOU a favor. What you were issued is called a Notice to Correct. It doesn't cost you a penny. The court doesn't know about it or the DMV. You have 30 days to correct the violation. If you don't have it corrected, signed off, and returned to the CHP in 30 days, it gets sent to the court. Then it becomes a real ticket. Then it will be $25 to have it signed off. Did you actually read the back side of it? It would have answered all your questions. With a 179XX badge, the officer is not a rookie. He would be out of my junior's junior class with about 4 1/2 years on. Even officers with 20+ years on issue those notice to correct and make those stops. The point of the notice to correct is to get compliance, not to generate revenue. The state doesn't get any money for the citations issued by CHP. It was a friendly way of saying get your car up to code without all the fines and penalties.
I was going to reply with a long drawn out response kind of like my original post but then realized there's no point.
CHP is a revenue earning agency of the state, the money goes to the county where the stop occured and the the issuing agency (as well as some other places). I know it doesn't go to "the State". Fines are given to make money, the end.
Finally, he wasn't doing me any favors. Yes, I don't have to pay a fine but that doesn't mean I'm not out of money. Considering I wasn't doing anything else wrong, not stopping me in the first place would have been a favor.
J. Rosette has been know in Fremont since the late 90's I grew up there and he sent me and a number of my friends to the state referee for modified cars. He also talks at the local High Schools or he did when i was there about modified cars. He will pull you over for anything and everything. My friend got pulled over with a 91 integra because it was too low and the state says headlight have to be 16 inches from the ground or some bull ****
(MSJ alumni...lol)
JFK alumni 98, yeah i got a visit from him like 4 times when i lived in fremont and another 2 times when i went back to visit with my civic. I even got the pop your hood because you axle back exhaust is too loud. It was so stupid I took the car to the state ref and they laughed because it was quiet and my headers and intake had carb legal numbers.
Foster City cops are just as bad they will pull you over because they don't know the car, its a way to get to know the town and keep crime down.
