Dealer Rip Off - Sj
This is the 1st time I took my car into the dealership for a regularly scheduled 30K maintenance. I bought a used car and technically this the 2nd time bu the 1st time everything was under warranty so I didn't come out the pocket at all.
Well, my service advisor, W.P., said I needed new brakes, new rear tires and alignment. I noticed I needed all 4 tires before taking it in and did not know anything about brakes being bad because I didn't look. First he said it was the entire brakes, then he later explained it was the brake pads as I figured already unless he was really tryin get some $$$ outta me. Second he only mentioned the rear tires needing to be replaced. I talked with him about the tires and he kept mentioning how pricey they are because of the rating of the tires and how good they are as I'm sure he thought I knew nothing about it. So I asked him the rating and he assured me it was the best, W rated Michelin's. I purchased Z rated tires before so I knew he was already BS'n about that but I let him do his "song and dance".
I figured he wanted me to come outta the pocket for the brakes and rear tires now. Then next time I got an oil change and brought it back to him or whatever, he'd recommend me gettin the front tires replaced and talk about something new that "needed" replacing. Or maybe he wanted me to wear the front tires out more and hopefully the rear as well so he could get me to pay for 4 new tires next time around. When I walked in to pick my car up after declining all of their recommendations I asked him again about the tire rating and asked him if he was sure W rating was higher than the Z rating which he actually flinched and stuttered. He had to re-think then admitted Z raHELL NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I took it to my friend who works at a shop for over a dozen years now and he checked the brake pads and mentioned that I did not need new brake pads and they weren't close to being worn yet. Front and rear tires he recommended replacing (which I knew already). My boy saved me over $500.
All in all, don't go to the dealership to get F'd up the @ss cuz because they don't even give you the option to pre-lube.

W.P coincidentally the service advisor who always dealt with me has the same initials. From F.I
Last time when my gas tank wouldn't fill and I brought the TSB. He did not sound very eager to deal with warranty issues. When my tranny feels alot different compared to the demo G he says its normal though I'm positive its different. Your post has persuaded me to change service advisors.

If you brought a 04 and below the brake and rotor warranty would have taken care of that for free. As for the rating on tires, W & Y are commonly use on exotic cars for higher performance. If it is for the G35 coupe you only need Z rated tires. You can buy W & Y rated tires, but it a waste of money.

heck, i took my g35 sedan in on friday for an oil change to get rid of the break-in oil at 1350 miles and the Quicklube manager at elk grove infiniti/nissan told me if i got it from elk grove infiniti that i shouldn't change it because it is only suppose to be changed at 3000 miles.... i told him, i wanted my oil change to get rid of the dark and dirty oil now and would still change it at 3k miles...
i told him, I have my own synthetic oil and oil filter... then he tells me the synthetic oil is not recommened until at least 7500 miles... i said, it was my car so please just change the oil already....
when the car was propped up to let the factory oil out, it was pretty much dark fudge chocolate that came out....my maximas oil at 4000 miles was cleaner.... anyway, the manager told the technician that my provided oil and filter was in the trunk ( should have just brought it out and gave it to the tech instead) and the tech got his dirty hands all over the trunk and door handles... then he proceeds to tell me as i observe the dark chocolate draining out that, i shouldn't put synthetic oil in my new engine until at least 10k miles.... i just shrugged my shoulders and thought whatever....
my 2k2 maxima has seen nothing but mobil 1 synthetic since 1k miles.... not at 60k, it still purrs silently, even more quiter than the g.... i guess the next oil change at 3k miles will be a DIY at home... they charged me $30 but i had an online coupon for $5 off any quicklube service off the elk grove infiniti website. the PITA would be removing the fasteners (screws and retainers) holding the plastic aero panel in...

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I will try next time, but I highly doubt it. Brake pads are not under warranty due to wear and tear, and dealership will let you know this unless their is brake FAILURE problems. Also, my car does still have under 36K.
