FJ Cruiser vs Xterra

So I'm thinking about trading in my wife's SUV, its an 07 Mistubishi Endeavor FWD, for either a new FJ Cruiser or an Xterra but we can't really make up our minds! Nissan and Toyota are both having sales going on until the 30th of Nov so the prices are about the same.

The FJ has much more aftermarket and the quality seems a lot better than the X. The X has full rear doors which would be much easier for our two daughters and since it only needs regular gas unlike premium for the FJ, it would be much more economical for daily driving. We haven't had the chance to test drive either of them so if anyone has any experience with either of them, some input would be great!

Another choice for us would be the GMC Terrain but were leaning towards the all around capabilities of the FJ and X.

I have a 2008 FJ 4x4 and I love it. It will smash the X offroad and the lack or rear doors has never been an issue with my two small kids.

Nice! Thanks for the reply.. I'm leaning towards to FJ but my wife has always liked Xterras so she wants to test drive both. It's going to be her main car anyway. We're not in a rush to get one but since Toyota is having specials going on right now its pushing us a little more. If we don't give in now we might just wait until 2011 to get a 2010 model that the dealers will be trying to get rid of.

My friend had an X and I thought it was kinda cheap. The FJ is really well built, very cheap/easy to service and has great power with the 4.0

FJ looks like a wannabe H3

I think the FJs looks are very unique.. they stand out whenever you see em on the road. And they look sick after a lift and bigger tires! Not that my wife is going to want to do that but you never know!
I have been thinking about getting rid of my G for something bigger but im not sure if I can let it go.

I'm like the FJ. It would look good with a 6' lift and bigger tires with more aggressive tread, it would be a bada** off road vehicle in most aspects - mudding, rock crawling, or tearin it up as a puddle jumper lmao. But I doubt your wife will be doing any of that. It's an overall fun vehicle. The only drawbacks would be those clamshell doors, and the interior has you feeling as if your in a submarine, quality is better though than the X.

The X is more a generic SUV, practical for everything. From picking up groceries to hitting the trails on the weekends. And like you said, easier getting into the backseat lol.

And there a big difference between the two. The H3 is based on the GMT355 platform, similar to the Chevy Colorado, and the H2 is similar to the Suburban.

Btw, the FJ would kill both of those in the off road world lol.

The FJ has been around longer than any version of the Hummer. I will smash a Hummer offroad in my FJ

I actually owned an 06 Xterra and hated the cheap interior. The plastic was so easy to scratch that you would have the feeling that by just looking at it would scratch. Not to mention the ride was very stiff and the back end would bottom out by just going over a speed bump with people in the back seat. I got rid of it in less than a year because of those issues.

What I did love was the power, that 4.0 VQ is the high point of the X.

Go with the FJ, the resale value is usually better with a toyota.
