Offset is simply the spot the rear of the hub lies in relation to the exact center of the wheel. 5mm towards the front from dead center would be a +5. After that you just gotta learn what different offsets different cars accept. For example you're not gonna put a 10.5 -10 on a civic.

and the offset thing +5 to what everyone said, it takes a while to learn it and then some creativity on ur part
