Same thing happened to me but I deserved it for driving a VW Bus.

Glad you and your family are okay.

Sorry about the car but as long as you're okay.

Oh gawd!! My heart goes out to you, I am sooo sorry for your loss. The pride of ownership really showed thru with how you took care of it.

I would not give the Ins. Co. any information about the lights not working and the mods that could have lead to the fire. You do not want to give them ANY ammo to deny your claim.

Again, Very Sorry For Your loss...

DAMN. That is awful. Only piece of advice is if you are insured low and have stock parts you can swap out and keep the upgrades to sell. Does sound like a short, and wires can sit and melt for a while before catching. Had a car stolen so not sure if that is any worse. Insurance dicked me over too. Had all the receipts, but they said "How do we know that was still in the car". Things will hopefully work out. Glad you are o.k.

i mentioned that i thought it might have been electrical because my taillights didnt work.. i hope i didnt screw myself there..

do any of you think that they might fight my claim because it was tt and so modified? geeeez i wish i still had my stock parts..

i have 70% of my receipts and they could see everything melted infront of them..

ughh idk..

Ins Co. will not cover the mods to the car unfortunately unless you had extra insurance added to your policy for a "speciality vehicle policy" which is a pretty expensive additional coverage. Even with proof, receipts, and pictures of the modded vehicle. (I checked into this on my car)

Just be very careful on how much information you relate to the Ins. Co. as they are always looking for a loophole or a way to deny these kind of claims and place blame on the insured party. It is sad, but a fact...

I hope your heart feels better soon, that is such a shame... She was a beautiful IP baby...

He's right. I looked into adding insurance once on a car I had a lot of money in mods once. It's steep. Don't expect to get much from your insurance.

Be careful with the cause, especially if it may hurt your chances on a claim. Doesn't mean you lie, but also doesn't mean you volunteer everything. They have people who can determine cause, so less ammo you feed them, the better. I have my fingers crossed for you.

I agree on Mods. Mainly know if from my motorcycles, but one of my friends has it down where he lists everything as well as takes photos of each change, as well as regular photos during maintenance etc (i.e. showing again and again parts installed, etc)

Even then you can run into probs, but the more proof you have, the better.

Good lesson to others out there, document and make sure you have the right coverage.

Again. Sorry for your loss. I know it must have been tough with it burning up in your own driveway.
