Hey Dad,
I heard to never talk to an adjuster until you speak to an Attorney. I heard that on the news the other night. Adjusters have ways of munipulating things. IMO
I am really sorry to see your car in that condition. Id be really devastated if this happened to mine.

I walked to the back of the car, and then saw smoke billowing out from the front of the car.
I freaked out, ran to the neighbours to see if they had an extinguisher (luckily they did, cause I didn't) and was able to put it out, but then it would re-ignite. Like a re-occouring nightmare. So the FD put it out for good.
I had it towed to my tech, and we took a look at it, coming up with this conclusion.
We think the rubber boot on the starter melted from heat. Which somehow came in contact with the hose clamp on my oil return line (not sure how), which grounded and literally blew up the clamp, you could see where it arc'd. When the clamp broke it allowed oil to squirt out, and caught fire. Thats why it kept re-igniting because it was still hot, the oil was hard to put out.
Thats our conclusion. Man that sucked, and to everyone who doesn't have a fire extinguisher, get one. You never know.

Wrong, completely wrong. I've dealt with mods on all of my cars. My 300zx tt caught on fire, and insurance covered everything, even the mods. My 1996 trans am was totalled and mods were covered on that as well lol. I have never had any separate insurance policy or stipulation with in the terms of the policy which "covered aftermarket parts"
Insuring mods is no different from insurance for something stolen out of a vehicle (say a laptop). If it is on or in your car, and it is lost or damaged, insurance companies are obligated by almost every state in the U.S. to make the policy holder whole.
Because you don't what the law generally requires in CA
Wrong again. You usually purchase rental coverage with whatever insurance package you purchase. Most "full coverage" insurance policies have vehicle rental as part of the contract.
I haven't read Sam's contract (neither have you) so you can't tell her what one company does and what one company doesn't. I only attempted to give broad advice as to things to think about and to look for. If she has any questions about what exactly she is entitled, this is a question for her agent to answer, or an attorney, if she chooses to seek one out.

So, I want to make absolutely clear here. If I go out and buy 50k wheels for my car today, install them, and then have my car light on fire tomorrow, I am going to be reimbursed for the full value of my car, and the 50k wheels, even though I've paid for no additional coverage on my car for "mods"?
Sorry, but sounds like bullshiet to me.
Just out of curiosity, have you received your JD yet? Pass the bar?
I would think when a laptop or other things are stolen out of your car that would go on you "homeowners" insurance not on your auto insurance...
therefore things that are meant to "go on" and "become a part" of the car itself would have to go on your car insurance.
When you first get insurance the insurance Co. is giving you a policy based upon the value of the car in current condition... "If you increase the value of the car" and do not get more of a policy and are making Ins. payments based upon the initial value NOT the modded then why would the Ins. Co. pay you back for more than you were paying into the policy just for the mere fact you had receipts?
SDG... that does not add up, sorry
