We all hurt for you....!

Let us know what your insurance company offers you, $15K isn't even close
to a replacement for your G. Insurance company's smile and take our money
but when there's a claim the smile disappears and all you hear is "Sorry!"
You might want to discuss this situation with a lawyer, they know what
buttons to push with insurance company's. All contracts have loop holes!

My car caught fire too when I first installed my Greddy TT. It was a very very strange sequence of events, I was able to get it out though with a chemical extinguisher and when the FD showed up they made sure it was out.

Now I carry an extinguisher in the car, and in the house.

Sorry this happened.

Problem is for insurance you are generally paying your premium based upon a value or range on your vehicle. Upgrading a stereo, some other mods, depending on the age of the car, etc it is probably not a big deal. This is especially true on a new vehicle. You put $5K or more on a vehicle that lists for almost $40K, well that is still just over 10%

You have $20K of mods on a vehicle that has a book value of $15K and you are paying your comprehensive, collision, etc on that $15K, I think this is where insurance has an issue.

For some of the people here who have not had an issue not paying more and getting paid by insurance for mods, did the costs of your mods exceed the KBB value of the vehicle?

In my case when my car was stolen and I was in college, my stereo was close to 100% of the KBB cost of the car, and I only got paid back on the car and head unit, none of the amps, speaker and about $500 worth of high end interconnects, power cabling, etc.

I have my fingers crossed that AIG comes through.

The thing that concerns me about the insurance coverage in this case are the mods that are not street legal (i.e. the FI pieces).

I'm very curious to see how this plays out ... hopefully there will be a happy ending.

my understanding has always been that mods could be covered with additional premiums... If the insurance compony doesnt know in advance of problems that the mods exists they dont cover... at least with my carrier (Wawanesa)...

I know that my wheels are only covered with additional premium (which I still need to do ) - I havent asked them to cover the performance stuff, because I want them to think its an every day sedan that doesnt go vroom...

How did your car catch fire?

Maybe your fire could be relevant to the current situation.
