My Heart Hurts.
Wow... that’s just horrible Sam... I'm really sorry for your loss - it sux for something like that to happen to anyone, but to someone so cool is even worse!
I hope the insurance thing works out... life brings good things in strange ways - so keep your head up, something better just might come out of this!
I know its' hard, but try to stay positive!
Good luck!

1. Make sure you have all receipts. You can claim everything you had in the car for insurrence, and fire, regardless of arson or not (even if this was your or your husband's fault) it will still be covered if you have full coverage due to the fire.
2. Make sure you file a diminished value claim against your insurrence company. CA is really great about this for vehicle owners. One of my friends in law school filed one against his Lotus and he took away 25,000.
3. CA requires insurrence companies to give you something comparable to your current car if they are giving you a rental vehicle.
3. If you need anything, please don't hessitate to call or shoot me a message.

1. Just because you have "full coverage" (a term that insurance people hate for this exact reason), doesn't mean that everything will be covered. Every insurance company has different underwriting rules. Insurance companies are only required to return a vehicle back to stock form. The majority of insurance companies require that you purchase special equipment coverage to cover aftermarket parts. Some companies don't even offer special equipment coverage. In general, insurance companies hate modded cars because of the increase in risk. There are just a very few companies that will cover everything no matter what with just receipts. But those companies are usually a lot more expensive for just that reason. "Full coverage" hardly ever means FULL coverage.
2. I have never heard of this so I have no comment here.
3. True. But unless it is automatically included as part of the policy, rental car coverage is a coverage that must be purchased separately. If rental car coverage is not on the policy at the time of a loss, they will not provide a rental car. But I don't think Sam needs one anyways.

Insuring mods is no different from insurance for something stolen out of a vehicle (say a laptop). If it is on or in your car, and it is lost or damaged, insurance companies are obligated by almost every state in the U.S. to make the policy holder whole.

I haven't read Sam's contract (neither have you) so you can't tell her what one company does and what one company doesn't. I only attempted to give broad advice as to things to think about and to look for. If she has any questions about what exactly she is entitled, this is a question for her agent to answer, or an attorney, if she chooses to seek one out.

I've been involved in accidents in 2 modded cars, and my insurance company (Allstate) even paid the 3k for my new rims/tires that were damaged. I am not sure what kind of ghetto (Geico) insurance company you guys deal with...
Second, I recall the 06 projectors being recalled for blinding other cars, but also could swear there was some sort of 'fire hazard potential' or maybe I am dreaming. I think I had read in addition to them blinding oncoming traffic, there was also a potential for fires w/ them which is why they were removed off the market???
Sorry to see this, the car looked sick but be glad nothing/nobody else was destroyed. In my opinion, everythign happens for a reason, be glad it happened this way and not while your family was in the car on a freeway.
Unfortunately, if insurance was to 'fix' you car (if thats even plausible) and you had an insurance company which would pay for all that stuff than it wouldnt be so bad. However, this looks like a total loss, where the insurance company I feel may just give you the fair market value of the vehicle.
Collecting $$ for mods really only works
1. If your insurance company is willing to pay for them (like mine was)'
2. If your car is still able to be fixed w/o being written off...
Good luck
