Mod Day in SFL.DM2 Coolant Bypass and More
#47
Great job on the Coolant Bypass - It really cleans up the front of the motor. I happened to see Danny's G at the Performance factory and it looked really slick.
While I was at the PF, Danny mentioned that DM2 made something to bypass the coolant from going through the plenum next to the throttle body.
Something similar to the copper tubing in the picture above. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to make... no sense in me buying the tubing and a bender if you guys already make them.
I'm not really sure what the value of the TB bypass of the item in the image is... It looks like it bypasses the coolant flow from the plenum, but still transfers some heat via the copper plate. I'd rather eliminate everything... have to be some benefits to living in Florida.

I don't want to drain all the water out of my block, but I'd like to stop hot coolant from going in the plenum by the throttle body. I'm not exactly sure how the tubing runs, but I should be able to use a single piece of rubber tubing to loop between the two pipes if I can get my hands on them.

^I have an easy $3.00 fix for this. Go tou your local autoparts store and ask for a "fuel line union" fitting. I cant remember the size...3/8" maybe?
Just pull the 2 lines that run to the plenum/TB and use the "union fitting" to plug them into each other and use the hose clamps that were on the original hoses..BAM..$3.00 and about 10 minutes and you are good to go.
Next time i install a polished plenum on someones car, I'll do a video DIY.
Well, before I waste my time, does anyone want or even need this?

please someone explain its driving me nuts

The reason that the coolant goes to the throttle body is to keep it from freezing open/closed in very cold weather. If you live in a place like southern California or Florida where the weather never gets to that point, then you can safely cut off the coolant to the throttle body. I assume that since you live in Ontario, in can get pretty cold. In that case, you could shut the valve during the summer and then open it back up again during the winter time. The problem is remembering to open it up during the winter time.
