Grounding wires = Big Surprise

For a while I have known about Grounding wires and always felt they were Snake oil. Why the hell would I pay over $100 for some wires? However the mod bug hit me and I started looking around for a simple mod when I stumbled upon a 13 page thread dealing with grounding wires. After Reading the thread I saw that 90% of the people who had them installed kept coming back saying how great it was, especially the 5AT drivers. The other few said It did nothing for them. I looked on ebay and found a custom kit made by a 350z driver. It was going for $50 shipped so I ordered it. The Kit came it was very well made with easy instructions. Took about an hour and was a very simple install.

After install I went for a drive and I noticed very little difference until I pulled up to my first red light. I noticed my idle rpms were the same when I first stopped (750rpm) Then the needle would very slowly start to drop... then it SHOT down to 650 rpm joined by a shaking of the car

Kept drivng around and it kept happening although each time a little less violent when the rpm dropped. Then It stopped and now my idle is 650rpm and the engine feels very smooth. I guess the ECU was adjusting so the wires must have had some effect.

Now on to the biggest surprise 5 AT shifting has been improved! feels much smoother and faster! So now I am thinking to myself my mind is only playing tricks on me and I am falling into the hype. Then I put the car in manumatic and ever since I have had the car the 2-1 manumatic downshift has always been very disturbing on my car. It was very rough, so much that I took it to the dealer when I first got it and he said it was normal. The 3-1 downshift was fine however when coming to a stop in 2nd gear the downshift to first was always very harsh. I would like to report that thanks to the grounding kit this is now eliminated and I am a very happy customer!

I still want to get grounding wires but I am worried that its is just in everyone's heads. did you have to make any adjustments to your ECU? also what was your item number on ebay? I think I want to get them now if you really think they worked.

link to auction? The one I found was for 5 wires with 1 added. It's not clear if he has one for the tranny ecu or not.

I'm curious if you found any benefits during your research/reading on the benefits for 6MT drivers?

Yes they really work! Please re-read my whole first post. I did not make any ecu adjustments but I know the ECU was adjusting to the changes becuase my first time out witht the cables my car started to drop rpms quickly..so much so that my car would shake like it was about to cut off, After some driving the car idle at a lower RPM and much smoother.

This is the one I got

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...spagenameZWDVW

It does not come with a tranny/ecu cable. I did not want to run these cables as the install becomes slightly more complex due to them

I read that 6mt owners dont feel much of a difference, except maybe a lower idle smoother feel to engine. The cables did wonders for my 5AT the 2-1 downshift in manumatic no longer feels rough.

yes I hear nothing but Great things about his kit. I just was not a believer in grounding cables so i went with the cheapest one I could find and must say the quality is very good. The cables have made a great improvement in the feel of my car.

I dunno how good these are (I have one on order), but there are nice looking custom sets for sale on my350z.com marketplace from HarvesterUT. http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166803 Not too expensive so I decided to try it out. Also, the Gordgees 10 wire kit has gotten alot of rave reviews for improving manumatic mode shifting. If I am not satisfied with the 7 wire kit, I may very well try it out.

2 to 1 and 3 to 1 downshifts? Just how long do you want this tranny to last 5 to 3, 4 to 2, and 3 to 2 downshifts are fine, but doing a lot of 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 downshifts is absolute hell on the bands and clutches of the 5AT. Since the car has so much torque, there's no real need to grab 1st unless you're below 5mph, auto or manual.

Perhaps some of you had developed oxidized, loose, or other bad ground connections that you've fixed by removing and retightening the ground connections, with the different cables being superfluous. Just another possibility to consider.

I understand what you are saying, but here is an example of what I am talking about.

Lets say im in 3rd and I am aproaching a stop sign, I let the car downshift for itself down to first there is no problem but if I am in 2nd and I let the car shift to 1st, the 2nd to 1st shift is very rough.

Like i said in my first post I did not believe cables would do anything but after many post of peopel saying they were happy with them and now that I have them I am a believer! If you tried to convince me a year ago I would have called you a ricer It took an army of people swearing how good they were to get me to try a set. I remember you from some of the threads

before I got the cables in my car the 2nd to 1st manumatic downshift was always very rough, this problem is now gone. Car idles smoother and is better shifting all around.

when I first installed the wires my idle became very erratic, when I would come to a stop and the car would idle as normal then shoot down quickly so much so that the car would shake and felt like it was going to cut out i can only attribute this to the ECU being confused or relearning idle.
