Click From Pedal When Releasing Clutch
Click From Pedal When Releasing Clutch
I have an annoying thing going on that is very difficult to troubleshoot. About 75% of the time whenever i release my clutch pedal when going INTO a gear with the engine running, there is a loud click noise coming from the pedal area. I cannot duplicate this while sitting still with the car off, so I'm stumped on what the issue could be.
I don't believe it is the interlock switch since that seems to move in and out smoothly with no noise. Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated
Thanks!

It is a very benign click noise; almost like snapping a lid closed. Today I noticed that it would click with the engine running while I was sitting at a light and just pressing and releasing the clutch but having the stick in neutral.
I would take it to the dealer, but the hassle factor is kind of a deterrent. I had it in for maintenance about 2 months ago and had them look at the problem, but they couldn't reproduce the sound. That is the main problem with this issue is that it isn't consistently there. So, I figure that it is something that I could fix myself.
I'm almost certain the sound is from the pedal assembly area on the inside of the car. It sure is annoying when driving.

OMG DUDE.
I have this EXACT same issue, I have taken it in 2 times for the exact same thing. In fact, I even gave my service guy the exact same number of 75% of the time LOL. It does it on release and it's loud. the problem is IT WONT DO IT if the car is off.
It does not do it if the car is off. The tech guys can't reproduce it, of course. It is driving me insane. This last time it was in, (last week) they took the pedal assembly apart and lubed it up...STILL fvcking does it. ARRGH.
It is definietly inside the car. I made sure they knew it isnt a clutch issue but more of a pedal issue.
Man your post is just like if I would have posted it. Same everything.

Does anyone out there have any ideas on what this could be or how to better isolate the problem? I would bring it to the dealer but trying to count on the noise happening when it is there would be tough to count on.
I had this problem and fixed it. For me, it was being made by the point where the clevis meets the pedal arm. Get down there and look and you will see what I mean. I noticed that while the pedal was releasing, after a certain point it was "pulling on" the clevis. And, sometimes, based a million factors out of my control or observation, they would make enough metal-to-metal contact to make this annoying click sound.
I looked thru the FSM and noticed it says that the clevis pin should be able to freely rotate when the pedal is released. On my car, it was kinda tight to rotate it, but if I pressed on the pedal very gently, it loosened up and rotated freely. This backed my conclusion that the pedal was pulling on the clevis.
So, to fix it, I loosened the nut on the ACSD (the switch that the pedal presses on when it is released). Then, I turned that switch assembly such that it would push the pedal down towards the floor gently. I kept checking the pin to see when it "freed up" and started rotating freely. Once I had the switch applying pressure on the pedal enough to free up the clevis, I tightened the nut back down (12mm wrench).
This completely got rid of my clutch clicking sound, 100%. Check it out, if yours is the same problem, it is easy to fix. Just make sure you do not put so much pressure on the pedal that it is actually making a difference in the clutch itself. However, that should be impossible, because the clevis pin binds up when that much pressure is on it, so it will be clear that you went too far anyway.

Allright, I think I might have fixed it. I really got down under the dash this time and looked and found a gold colored pivot held in with a pin, NOT a bolt. I turned it multiple times and could feel it "breaking lose" in a good way. It is meant to turn freely, which it was not before. I put tons of lube in it as well.
I also got WAAAYY up under it and turned the actual spring, rotated it a half a turn.
There has not been I single pop in two days. Might be a little early to say its completely fixed but so far in two days it hasnt popped once.
This literally took 5 minutes to fix compared to the 3 times the dealer has tried to fix it.

I'm going to go ahead and say it's fixed. I've put 100 miles on the car, all city so there was tons of shifting, and not one more pop, not ONE!
If you guys are still having trouble let me know and I will take some pics of the two pieces I adjusted.

My car was doing the exact same thing and I posted a thread about it a while back, but mine went away on its own. Very good info in this thread, so I'll know what to do if it comes back. Photos would be bom. Thanks to all.
Well, I climbed under there and tried to play around with the things that lekker droom said worked for him. It was very hard to determine exactly where the noise was coming from. I decided to take some silicon lubricant spray and sprayed the pivot pin (held in with a cotter pin) and the main spring assist. Since then, the pedal has not made the noise. So, hopefully that worked... I've got my fingers crossed.
