Heater Core Bad?

Heater Core Bad?
I have a 2007 G35 Base Sedan and recently I noticed coolant misting out of the a/c vents (and fogging of the windshield) at certain times and also coolant dampness in the driver's side under the floormats.
My local mechanic thinks the heater core is bad and needs replacing. The heater core is discontinued but he located an OEM from a different state. The interior dash will need to be removed to replace the core and also the intake manifold will need to be moved for the job (thus, the intake manifold gasket, heater hose, and throttle body gasket should be replaced too).
He's estimating the job to cost $2500 (including parts)
I'm in southern California. Is this a reasonable price for this job?
I talked to a local Infiniti dealership and he said that the heater core is discontinued so unless I can get the part used or somewhere else, they cannot provide any options. The service advisor mentioned that perhaps the heater core can just be disconnected so that the interior heater won't work but at least the car will be operatable. He wasn't sure exactly if that's possible for this car.
Has anyone bypassed the heater core for this car successfully?

Probably just the intake hose from air filter to throttle body. That isn’t a big deal. I fairly easily replaced the coolant hoses a couple years ago that attach to the heater core in the engine bay.
Seems like quite a number of aftermarket heater cores if you want to go that route.
This claims to be OEM
