Houston is becoming a mess cuz of Hurricane Katrina!

I've been reading all the posts and watching the news on what's going on and hearing a lot of bad news with all the people being evacuated to our city. Looting, killing, raping. I don't feel so safe anymore. Don't know whats gonna happen now that New Orleans is pretty mmuch gone. What will they do with all these people. It seems out of control to me. And I hope these kinda victims don't get loose and run around in our neighborhoods. We don't need that kinda **** here.

I heard a lot of inmates have escaped are very well running around in our city, so much **** going on lately. Gas prices, arghhh, this is starting to look bad...

What are your guys thoughts on this whole situation.

As a Houston resident with a family, I'm not sure what to think. I feel sorry for those people, especially those with kids. A lot of people are donating time, money, and resources to help. My company has a huge freakin grill and offered to cook for those at the Astrodome. We were told that we were not needed. All this generosity cannot last forever. We have plenty of homeless and unemployed people of our own. They stand on every busy intersection in the city. Now there is a few hundred thousand more. There is no way you can employ that many people all at once. I know a lot of these people are good, quality people that need a little help. However, with all the crazy stuff going on in NO, you have to wonder what kind of people you are getting in general. I think we just need to be firm and offer what we can. If people start some trouble or try to rip people off, then you come down hard on them. I also think we need to work on getting rid of the illegal aliens and spend more resources helping our own people that actually pay taxes.

Unhappy Hurricane Katrina Woes

I am one of those displaced from New Orleans and we are good people. What you are seeing on TV are people who are of low income and are in a fight for their LIVES. Every city has bad people, it’s just when you combine poor, scared, life threatened to the mix it’s very dangerous. I don't understand and don't condone the raping, killings and beatings. Wal-Mart and Target, just to name a couple large retailers opened their doors for people to take essential goods for survival. Yes, I’m sure that even the most moral of all people went in there and took needed goods and slipped a DVD or memory stick in their pocket. But most of the people who stayed were because they couldn’t afford to leave.

I'm sure that ANYONE who is placed under those same extreme conditions that these people are placed under will do anything to protect and support their families.

I am not giving up hope on New Orleans because of a few bad apples. I have lost very many of my prized possessions, but the possessions that I hold closest to my heart are my kids and family and we are all safe now (displaced but safe).

As a Dept. of Defense Prime Contractor providing network and telecommunications support we may be opening a Houston branch ourselves. (I hope we are welcome.)

Please donate to the American Red Cross as there are 10000’s of families less fortunate than mine have been displaced or left behind in what seems like a war destroyed zone.
