California Stop Ticket

HI All,
I got a ticket a few weeks ago, and yet to get the official cost of it, I basically didnt stop for the required 3 seconds at a stop sign. Damm Cops had a sting opperation going on, I got poppped. Not trying to fight it, I'll pony up. Has anyone received any ticket like this, if so how much? Also, curious, it is only a 1 point offense, right?

Thanks

3 seconds?..is that really the law in socal?..I'm lucky if I stop for more than 1.5 second.. I just make sure the car comes to a complete stop, I'm sure I don't stop for 3..

that happened to me before. you don't have to wait 3 seconds. as long as you make a complete stop, you should be ok. basically what the cop told me was that when you stop just wait for your car to rebound back up...that way you'll know you've stopped completely. whatever cop told you to wait 3 seconds is 1) telling you that that's a good way to ensure you've made a complete stop or 2) he's just a dumb@$$.

The ticket was almost $200 i believe. it's been awhile so i forgot.

I would fight it, but there was a sting going one, and there were two cops in the car. So hoping that I would win by default is pretty much out the window. I'll pay the fine, do the time. Sucks being out $200+ though, coulda went toward my intake!

Red lights and stop signs are $180-305 depending on the jurisdiction. Plus traffic school and court costs for signing up for traffic school.

I beat a $305 red light ticket in Long Beach about 8 years ago. When I was really poor and the money meant a lot to me. The cop showed up too, but contradicted himself a couple times in his testimony. The judge wasn't happy. I saw the cop coming out of court after my ticket was dismissed and I did a fist pump ala Kirk Gibson in the 88 world series. The cop wasn't happy.

You are correct. There is nothing in the vehicle code that states 3 seconds... All wheels must come to a complete stop. That’s all. Also, the infraction is not called "California Stop".

OP - What was the actual vehicle code listed on your citation?

FYI : I finally got my ticket in the mail, looks like running a stop sign cost $150.00 for L.A County.
