Autozone OIL and Filter special- $10.99, great price

I am currently am breaking in my new engine under warranty from infiniti, and its best to run regular oil for the first 10k. Socal Autozones are having awesome sales on Castrol GTX (regular oil, not synthetic) and a choice of 1 of 5 different filters for $10.99 no rebate out the door. I bought enough for 2 changes. Thought Id let the people know...

ps: my brothers shop told me that the Bosch higher end filter that is avaliable for the 10.99 deal is cr*p, I guess the even the FRAM is better.

Just wondering...
Why is it recommended to use regular oil for the first 10k miles?

thanks for informing us about the special but that 10k is BS. I switched to synthetic after 1k on the odo. Never burned a single cord of oil having 60 hard miles on the car.

+1 your engine is already broken in by the factory, there should be additives in your oil to help break in..

I changed to synethic at 500miles.. most members start at around 1k or first dealer service..

Becuase regular oil is "rougher" then syn.. so people use it to help the new parts wear down and the rings to seat.

the 5-10k thing applies more to fully rebuilt motors

considering that my second engine, im on my third now, siezed up the 6th cylinder at 300 miles and knocked so bad I made a youtube video of it, Im not taking my chances. I agree with the part about fully built motors using regualr oil, I figure hey why not.

Its "quart" not "cord"

Ya I wouldn't worry too much about the milage. Synthetic oil is better than dino oil. So I don't see a problem. I switched to synthetic on my coupe at around 3K, and 3K on both of my S2000's. None of them burned any oil and all of the cars had abnormally high amounts of power.
