Snowboarders!

So i've searched and couldn't find a thread about a particular question so here it is:

Has anyone taken a trip up to big bear for some snowboarding in the G??
Is Very cautious driving/Chains sufficient to take the G up to big bear?

I want to know how bad the snow/ice will be cause i'm contemplating driving up there this winter. I currently have z rated performance tires that have about 30-40% tread left. And since i'm only planning on taking the trip once or twice a year i don't think snow tires will be a good investment.

What do u guys think???

How treacherous are the roads icy or snowy to big bear? We're planning a trip for 4-5 people and my buddy has a 90's 4runner but its not 4wd, would his 4runner be a better option?

ORRR my girlfriend has a solara convertible, but she's never driven in snow and i don't think that car is very suitable for the trip either lol!

I wouldn't do it. I did it in an Auto 335i coupe last winter, but we went when the snow was barely... snowing. We left as it was pouring ice / snow and it was a pita to come down. No chains though. Still I wouldn't do it in the G. I'd just rent a car or something.

Please don't even think about it. I did it once to Lake Tahoe, Nor. Cal. Got tons of rock chips all over my G from one single trip. Rent a car. It will cost way less.

+1 on just renting a car, especially since its only for once or twice a year. Rent an Outback or something, lol.
