Roadside Smog Checks

I was lucky enough to avoid a roadside smog check today in Valencia. Most of the time if you're aware you can find a way to avoid them, need be aware of what's ahead of you. There's lot of flashing lights and an officer waving people over. I have no doubt that if I would have driven past I would have been pulled over....Gary

Wow! that sucks. Lucky for you. I haven't seen that around NorCal. Is this SoCal thing?

They have them. Just another form of revenue.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. It must just be a visual inspection, right? This state is ridiculous. Hopefully I'll be out after not too much longer.

I haven't heard of this before. I can't imagine that they can FORCE you to comply since it isn't a safety issue. Maybe Cali will stop doing this and instead pull people over to measure the tread on their tires.. I hope they keep these smog checks in Valencia with all the riff raff.

From what I could see they had a car on a dyno, so they're doing sniffer tests. I would guess if you didn't comply they could have your car impounded. If you failed the next visit would be with a CA State Smog Board referee which means everything under the hood like intakes and spacers could be illegal....not to mention ART pipes and HFCs. Naturally they would be replaced with OE cats for any inspection!

Fuuuuuu, a dyno? That's hardcore. Not like there isn't enough real crime to chase. ****ers.

I'm new to the state, but damn that is indeed hardcore. That money should be spent elsewhere besides a silly smog test. What do they really get out of it, if it becomes a fix it ticket?

If they catch anyone with test pipes or ART pipes I believe removal of OE cats carries around a $1,200= fine. Could be more since Brown took office....

New to the state? The first thing you should know is that this state will suck every penny they can and slap every regulation on you they can. Best advice is to GTFO ASAP.
