Commerce Casino Anyone?

saw this started in another thread but i figured some might not read the other one..

how often do you guys go to commerce? i went last tuesday and played some no limit, my gf was playing 1-2 hold em for the first time live and i just couldnt do it with her, to many fishers... so i went with what i know best, 3-6 no limit... we should all try to meet up and play sometime at someones house, like a 20 or 40 buy in or soemthing... i live about 8 minutes from commerce...

i usually go to hawaiian gardens or commerce. i was at HG over the weekend an did pretty well (3-6). going to vegas for thanksgiving and will go non-stop at the poker rooms. i like playing $100 nl in vegas than l.a. the guys in vegas are more serious about it because there are more tourists. but anyway, up for a home game anytime.

I tried this a few weeks ago, but only one person from this board replied and he flaked. Still we had a 7 handed NL HE game with $1-2 blinds and $200 max buy in. Ran about 4-5 hours. I live in Van Nuys in a large house with lots of parking at the end of a nice quiet street(although the surrounding area is not that great). I have enough chips and table felts for 2 tables, but could do more if others bring chips. Also 2 large refridgerators...and I am thinking about getting a kegerator. Also a pool table, and a big screen. It would be no problem to accomodate 30-80 people.

I think 30-80 would be a little over estimating... hahah but i would be in and so would the lady friend.... nl is a little too much for her right now as she is just learning but if you are willing to do 40 buy in, tournament style, i would be in.. lets try to get the ball rolling on this....

I'm at Commerce a couple times a month also playing 2/4 or 3/6 fixed. I was there Sat. Night where I saw sternroolz. I also play online almost every night in $10 & $20 NL HE sit and go's (which you will only find online). NL tourneys and fixed ring games are my preferences

I'm down for a home game sometime. I've got a nice table as well as chips I can bring so let me know.

AJ,

When I first started playing at Commerce I started off at 1/2. Let me tell you, I could never improve my game. It's a fish tank and nothing more. Aces will get cracked due to fishes who will put you on a bluff betting on their pair of 2's with a flop consisting of 2 K 5 for example. When they happen to pair their other hole card on the river, you'll understand that 1/2 is all about the river so no starting hand is a good one. Of course this is untrue for NL.

Tell your girl to move up to 2/4 where you have a lot less fish. Stakes are higher, but odds of winning increase also. The minimum buy in is only $20 bucks (general rule for minimum buy in is 10 times the BB or 5 times the higher stake). 1/2 is not for making any sort of profit (unless you get lucky and leave after your first big win) but rather for experiencing live poker.

i agree wicked. 1-2 is cool for learning the mechanics of the game, but it should be called "no fold 'em - hold 'em". even my 3-6 table gets to that point sometimes, but not as many of the 4-8 offsuit guys holding out for an 8 on the river.

i'd be down for a home game or a commerce meet-up.

Don't play on low limits otherwise you might as well play roulette cuz it's No Fold 'Em Hold 'Em. Gotta go at least $10/$20 for a respectable game, but the NL is pretty fun $100 or $200 buy in.

hmmm i go a couple times a week. I agree with everyone commenting on the limit games...either ur at 9-18 or go home...even 4-8 has mad fishes... I started playing NL cuz its easier to make ppl fold. started at 100...went to 200...then 400... now im back and forth between the minimum 600 buy in and 400...real good games...food...and ppl

Making people fold is totally not the point of limit holdem.

The point is exploiting small edges to a maximum by building huge pots. Unfortunately the fishies at Commerce are all to willing to cooperate and this results in huge variance. But the lower limits at Commerce...from about $3-6 on up are definitely beatable, even with the high rake.
