Upper oil pan removal

Hello everyone...I need help, I'm a little stuck here...

I am trying to re-seal the upper oil pan + change both rubber gaskets front and rear. I have the car on 4 jack stands and the pan is separated from the engine, literally loose and old seal is broken.

My question is the following: How in the world you get it out?, Has anyone done this before?
Can it be done with the engine in place? Or the only way is to take it out?

Please, any advice will be much appreciated. I am not a mechanic but have always work on my cars myself + shops around see you need help with your G and they charge ridiculous prices.

If you know anyone willing to help in CenTex area, that will be great, I haven't been able to contact anybody around here.....thanks again, fellas...

Did you take off the engine crossmember? Use an engine support bar to hold the engine from the topside then take off the entire suspension, then you should be able to get it off.

For the future I REALLY don't recommend using a cherry picker for that because you are relying on a hydraulic means to not fail while you're under the vehicle. If you have to do this in the future just pick up an engine support bar, you can get them for about $50 for a really cheap one or $100 for a really good one.

Glad everything worked out.

There's many ways to skin that cat.

Personally I use Herculine 2500 mule tape and sling the headers in the back of the engine and some brackets in the front. Been my go-to for slinging engines for the last decade because it's 100% universal and 1 strand of herculine is almost enough to lift the entire car.

Being an electrician I have access to basically an unlimited amount of Herculine which helps. Most folks will use straps or chains or whatever is laying around (EDIT: or 1" or larger ratcheting straps, those have gotten pretty common just check the weight rating on them but it's usually 2500 lbs just like herculine).

I think two of the bolts in the timing cover near the middle are the factory approved from sling points. You would need to check the FSM to verify that though. Usually you would remove those bolts and attach 45 degree bolt tabs then attach your chain to those with an add-a-link
