UTEC vs UNICHIP

ok guys newbie question....what is the difference betweeen the UTECH and UNICHIP? Which one is better? I was leaning toward UNICHIP. Also do either of these modify shift points, and not just redline and air/fuel ratios..etc...

are you a DIYer? if so, go UTEC all the way. The UTEC is user tunable....that is enough for me!

Neither will affect shift points. To make any meaningful difference there, you are talking TC and valvebody upgrades. Not really worth doing unless adding FI or building a potent NA motor.

The Utec is going to be a better EMU . As far as shift points . The G35 has seperate TCM that controls the tranny shift points

Ok so UTEC is the preferred way to go. . I plan on making the following upgrades(listed Below). I see Stillen offers the tranny software upgrade. So you think it would benefit getting the stillen upgrade for the tranny. Will that drastically help performace?

Still Gen 2 Catback and headers
Motordyne MREV2 and 5/16 spacer
Stillen Z-Tube and K&N Drop in Air Filter
UTEC EMU

P.S I can't wait to see the gains I get from all these mods

Unless you go FI, I don't see any reason you need UTEC .... basically with your modifications alone, you don't really need ECU unless you really want to extract max 10 whp more ....

I gained 15whp across the entire rpm curve when I added the Utec...the power gained is mostly in the tuner's hands, and I had a great tuner. If you have the money for it, go for the Utec. Plus it will be there in the end when you go FI

With many bolt-on's, a stock G would be running lean without a tune.

That is incorrect..We have seen upwards of 23 whp throughout the powerband on some cars..The average is about 10-15 whp, but its not just peak usually..

+1 utec is the perfect step towards going FI, i have tuned many cars with it and you can get all the boltons you have done to finally work correctly.

then, when you go FI, its one less thing you need to buy at once..

just so you know, that is not always true, i have seen cars come in with many bolt ons running really rich and really lean, and some are pretty damn close to ideal AFRs.
