Please help, Im losing confidence in the G

Hi guys,

So after having my 04 G Coupe for a year, after I have spent money on CAI (Fujita), Pro 1 Exhaust, Megan (test pipes), Plenum Spacer, Cobb Accessport, and other components of the car no actually related to the power of the car, I finally had the chance to take it to the Dyno. The first pull read 235 hp, second pull read 239, and the third read 241. I don't even know what to say, except for daaaaammmmn what a dissappointment. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I hang around alot with guys that are already FI (sti, evo's) however just with their stock turbo and bolt on's they get way more hp than I can even reach with a turbo. My plan was to go APS turbo, but after seeing the numbers yesterday I feel like I waisted my money big time. Anyone had the same experience? BTW I am not bashing the car or anything, matter of fact I love it, however for the money I dont think its worth it to continue to keep going with the upgrades based on the results. Please let me know your opinion,

Thaks Fellas,

stock your motor puts around 220 to the wheels..what did you think you would have? for the mods that you have on your actually doing ok for a non rev up g35..lose that intake and go with a rev up and k@n or a stillen intake and you will probably gain a couple horse power..our cars dont do well with the cai...and with a turbo you can get more than an sti or evo..you can get over 400 hp to the wheels with a turbo kit and proper tune..but it will cost you a lot of money.

The problem is you got a CAI, wont be able to use it when you go turbo too. Dynos all wont read the same. You may get 260 on one and 240 on another. Should have done a baseline before all the mods.

^^^ exactly!

OP, if you go to another dyno and it reads 255 are you going to be satisfied with the car's performance? (even though nothing had changed)...

if all you're looking for is performance, there are way easier cars to mod than ours, but can you honestly drive and sit in a STI and say, yea this interior is WAY nicer than my g.

Hi guys,

thank you for all the input. Well, honestly I expected to have at least 270 to 280. For the first pull, I reset the ECU using the COBB accessport back to the stock map, however when I re-ran the upgrade on another map it came out at 241. Good point that all dyno's will not read the same, however just looking at the weight of the csr vs the hp produced I dont think its worth the money to keep doing all the tunning upgrades. As for as the look of the car, I believe it is one of the best ones out there, however performance wise for the price that I paid I expected more. So moving forward never backwards lol, I was wondering if you guys had any inputs as to what the best bang for the buck would be besides getting an 8k turbo? Any ideas? I still have hope and of course without you guys I wouldn't be able to have the knowledge that I do....

Do a supercharger, cheap, effective. Just not expandable as a turbo for power. Its a nice platform, but honestly if you wanted one for more performance I would have just done the 350z for the curb weight difference. 3100 vs 3400.. base model vs base model.

I was in the same boat as you.. I went as far as demoding the car completely and trying to get into something else.. Now I am modding again the proper way..

+1 more extra thing.... Nitrous

You don't need 300+ whp for daily driving right? Only for racing and messing around with your evo buddies right? Thats why i'm doing nitrous..

a 10 pound bottle lasts longer than a few seconds.. Plus I do not go out and race every night.. Just maybe 1 or 2 a week where if I am racing a clearly superior car I will use it.. Thats all.. Other than that just track use which will last 6-8 drag pulls which is plenty for me.. Only costs $28 to fill up the bottle at my local checkers too.

I know nitrous is really not that great at all, but its good for temporary fun.. If I go true FI I will want it done right and safe which means all brand new parts and a proffesional tune + install which would run me 10K + (turbo, not SC). I just don't want to dump 10K into the car just like that.. I'd rather keep that money for a newer car/upgrade.

1) Motordyne plenum spacer
2) Motordyne ART pipes (according to recent independent dyno results, these just came out)
3) True dual exhaust (HKS, Motordyne, Fast Intentions)

There are unlimited combinations of breather mods you could go for, but I don't think anybody can argue that the ones I listed above are the only real worthwhile NA power mods for our cars. If you get these and a tune, and are not happy with results, it's time to go buy a new car or go FI. Which at this point in this cars lifespan, is probably not worth it.

Hi guys,

thanks for the input. Honestly, I love my car, and would love to keep it, but I think for what I am trying to do is to actually take it to the track, I dont think its gonna happen with the NA motor. Of course I can cruise, and look nice, however at this point I am really looking for a performance car. Other thing, I was looking at other mods, HKS dual exhaust ($2K), Kinetix Intake Manifold ($749), and if I but only those two parts, what will I get, 10 hp at the most? I understand that once I go turbo, my gain will be better, however, anyone out there that has done the mods on the NA and actually got close to 300 hp at the wheels? What were your results? what did you do, and how did you do it? What was the cost? Please let me know if you have any info,

Thanks again fellas
