Swapping the ECU for re-flash

Could somebody give me info on exchanging the ECU in our cars. A tuner could not re-flash my stock ECU (some problems with saving the data on it) so he did it on another one and told me to get the ECU swapped by a Nissan dealer.
Can you do sth like this and what are the dangers of swapping an ECU for another one. Does the immobilizer have to be recoded?
I would appreciate if somebody could share some experience on this topic.

I did, but this won't help me much. TS is about chipping the same ECU and putting it back in, UTEC is a different story alltogether.

My question is: what problems can I get when swapping one stock Nissan/Infiniti ECU with another Nissan/Infiniti ECU?

From what I understand, the same ECU (your own) has to be removed and reflashed.
A substitute cannot be used.

Hmm.. that's bad news. Do you know the reason for it? Immobilizer?

Eddie23, that pic is CrAzYYY!!! ahhh wish i was in Germany.... jus dont swap out ur ecu.... send it to TS they'll reflash it.... no adding a chip just.... um basically reprogramming it... adding a chip is a piggy back system... with TS u get soo much and its undectable by obdII.... up to you tho and in refrence to ur actual question... i think u could trade ecu's bc i kno that ppl sell them outta crashed cars and some ppl buy them to reflash them.... so they have a spare ecu... if u want check out the TS web site they sell spare ECU's also.... hope that helps! Utech is also a good.... buh since ur in Germany.... maybe not the best idea...

don't forget all the problems you'll run into if you send it off for somebody else to do and they arn't, for example, at the same elevation as you

Thumbs up

I actually kept my "oem" stock ecu got a junkyard one and had that flashed then had my nissian dealer program my key for the ecu cost 60 bux. Jut leave the stock ecu and drive it to the dealer give them the flashed or chiped ecu and tell them to install it and program it for your keys. This way i figured if my reflash didnt turn out i just plug the stock one back. Works fine for me.

Thanks for the help guys.
mcy4ever - I see you've done exactly what I plan to do. If it's really just reprogramming the keys for the new ECU then that's no problem, I'll go for it. I didn't think it was that easy.

For me, yes. Especially that I have the 98 Oct gas here, I can make the engine run leaner without the risk of knock.
