NOPI Cancelled
NOPI Cancelled
I literally didn't believe this when my friend told me, so I came home to check it out. Must be some hard times.

I'm just really pissed because Nationals this year WAS going to be September 20 and 21. My 21st birthday is on the 20th. Now I'm gonna have to go somewhere else on my 21st. I'm thinking Chi-town.

It is with great regret that NOPI Motorsports, LLC has suspended operations for the summer and fall 2008. This will include NOPI Drag Racing Series, NOPI Drift Series and the NOPI NATIONALS Motorsports Supershow. The company is undergoing an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season. The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events. Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live. The countrywide economic and industry downturn has caused a slowdown and tightening of belts. This affects everyone and companies, at all levels, and NOPI Motorsports is no different.
We understand the position this puts everyone in and we hope you can find in your heart to work with us through this terrible time. All of you are our friends and we have felt for many years that we were all a big family.
NOPI Motorsports hates this more than anyone as the many years of hard work, tradition and an industry we helped to shape would come to this.
Please watch nopi.com for future announcements.

I'm glad we're name calling now.
Nevermind then, just thought I would try and inform people that the largest car show on the planet wasn't going to happen.

Soooo if it's not until September why don't they take donations on their website to see if car enthusiasts are willing to make it so it can still happen?
On second thought from the sound of the letter maybe NOPI will be no more before then...

Thats a great idea but do you have any idea of how much money we are talking about here
^^^
For just NOPI nationals, not nearly as much as it would take to probably keep them afloat otherwise. Unfortunately you can't have one without the other, because if the sponsors don't pay for part of the show, there's no way they'd get enough donations.

This has been a long time coming. I live in GA and was in the business, NOPI was a client for a little while. I knew the owners and a lot of their employees. They've been in decline for years now. Really, they peaked in '02-03 as far as the show was concerned. The last few years, attendance has dropped steadily. I went last year after a couple of years not going and was extremely disappointed. Attendance was low, vendors weren't there, etc. NOPI started shutting down their retail stores years ago as sales were way, way down. And now they have a Summit Racing store in their neighborhood, that can't help. Plus I've been told that their race series became unprofitable. It's sad to see, but let's face it, the quality of their show was always subpar. It was just big; very, very big. The quality of most of the cars was no better than you see in a mall parking lot. There were a few nice cars, but they were always few and far between. Judging was always messed up, organization was iffy (I was a vendor there for a while and it was frustrating). I always thought that the HIN shows and that type were much better organized and a better overall experience.
