What is that horrible hiss sound in AUX mode?

I recently purchased an '08 G35 Sedan which included the Premium Package without NAV system. Over the weekend I was installing my Sirius Sportster unit and using the RCA inputs located under the armrest for the audio input (AUX mode). Come to find out... there is this nasty hissing sound when the volume reaches about 50%. At first I thought it was engine noise or some other type of interference, but that's not the case. So I unplugged the RCA cables and cranked up the volume in AUX mode and sure enough the hissing sound is there when the volume reaches about 50%. It should be dead silent! So I switched over to the Ipod interface and cranked up the volume exceeding 50% and it works perfectly fine without the hiss. Anyone else experiencing this problem?? It's going to give me a headache every time I use the AUX input!

Thanks everyone

That's caused by a ground loop and can be eliminated by using a ground loop isolator like this one available at radioshack:

+1 Yep. As Christian says, the isolator from Radio Shack will fix it - it doesn't work with video tho.

Mad bumpage!! Thanks Christian for some useful info.

I just got some Apple AV Cables for my iPhone 3GS, and these babies work flawlessly!

Okay, this is a very good example of using the function "search". RIGHT?

I use the Apple AV composite cables, which also come with a usb connection integrated that can be used to charge the iPhone. In order to use the USB port, I bought a cigarette adapter splitter off Ebay and plugged the USB cable. However, I get the awful hissing interference which is only gone when the USB is unplugged (and the iPhone isn't charging). Would a ground loop isolator help resolve this issue?

Does the ground loop isolator help with the sound? I don't really get much of the hissing sound but i have to turn the volume all the way up but the sounds still isn't very loud...it's quite bad actually.

Are you using Apple cables and have you maxed the volume on you iPod/iPhone/whatever? Does it happen with all of your music? I find that occasionally certain songs are encoded/recorded in lower amplitude.
