Feedback - Running AMP wire.

Their are two grommets in the fire wall that look promising for running an amp wire. One on the passenger side behind the battery. The other is on the driver side near the power brake reservoir.

The passenger side grommet is more convenient for routing the cable but it mounts in a horizontal plane so I'm deathly afraid that I won't be able to seal it properly and I will get water inside.

The driver side grommet mounts vertically so I think their is less chance of water getting in, but routing behind the engine make things a little more difficult. Don't want the cable flapping around back their.

Attached some pic's.

What would you do if you were me?

many people would suggest going through where the battery is since it is very close. just use a screw driver that smaller than the wire gauge that you are using to poke a hole and slide the wires through.

on my car i had an installer install mine and he went through the driver side, but the smarty pants didn't poke a hole. He kinda just pull it off a little and now there is a gap and water is getting in, so right now i am deciding what to do.

I ran 0 gauge through the grommet on the first picture and then sealed it up with black rtv silicone. It drops down right behind your glove box and there is plenty room under the carpet to run power wire.

i went through the driver side but i can't remember what i did about the grommet. i have not had any water come in the car, and we've had crazy rains here in the northeast lately.

Good to know. I was worried that RTV wouldn't be good enough since water can pool on the grommet. Was thinking RTV and them something else over top the whole thing to deflect water. Maybe I'm being over cautious.

I just ran it where the battery is, passenger side. Popped all the trims along the doors and then to the trunk. My amp is in the trunk. Just feed the wire once you make a cut through the grommet and you will see the wire drop in passenger side. Your fuse should be by the battery it can't be far from the terminal.

Did you use RTV to seal it back up? Any water issues?

cut I made was so tight I didn't use any sealers. Probably could use a tiny bit but for now I've never had any issues with water coming in. Just don't get too crazy with cutting. I've ran wires so many times I'm used to wrestling with tiny cuts, first time I ran a wire the hole was pretty large.

Also I'm in SoCal which is different climate, my car's been rained on maybe 5 times this year lol.
