trouble inserting 12v plug into armrest outlet

Has anyone had any trouble when trying to plug in anything to the armrest power outlet? I can't get my Delphi Roady XT (XM tuner) to plug in. It works fine in the actual cigarette lighter outlet on the dash but won't fit under the armrest.

What I mean is that it won't insert into the outlet. I felt inside the outlet and there's this weird angled 'something' that I can feel there. That piece doesn't budge and isn't spring loaded in any way. Pretty sure that's the cause but what is it?!

I'm going to try taking a picture because I can't see no matter what angle I use to look at it.

I'd appreciate any wisdom anyone may have...

J

so you're having trouble getting it in the hole?

sorry, couldn't resist lol. i do notice that some things don't fit as well in that outlet due to the angle inside the armest or something but i'm having trouble visualizing your particular issue. ill be curious to see the picture

LOL! I swear I tried to not open that damned 'can't get it in the hole' door. Couldn't manage it though...

I'll take the pic later on today.

So get this Remy, it was a frickin' penny jammed in the socket. I took a few pictures but the flash was washing out the pic. So I put my finger in the hole and got violent. I thought if I can't see what's in there I may as well get medieval on its ***. It started to pry loose which is when I figured out it was change.

Took about 15 minutes of swearing and all sorts of positions but I managed to get it out!

Anywho, all set now with a functional 12v socket in the armrest. Another check mark off the WTF list.

Damn I bought my sedan used and thought the fuse for the armrest was blown. So I replaced the fuses and tested but nothing again. So I just started using the main outlet and forgot about it. Well after reading this post I stuck my finger in there and some coin is stuck in there as well.
