I think it's a nice mod, but I also understand the points zoop425 is making and they are very valid. It would be nice to have the video output + some steering wheel/dash manual controls through a gateway (Grom, iSimple or similar). Unfortunately the existing gateway manual control leaves much to be desired...

I used the composite cables. Haven't mounted the iPod but that is a really good idea that a friend of my also suggested to make it look cleaner. I used zip ties to organize the cables in my arm rest and I have just enough slack for it to reach into my cup holder. I will probably find a way to run the cables through the center console but that will be in the future when I have time.

Ya it would definitely be nice to have those controls but the controls that I do have are good enough for me and I cannot complain at all.

Nice, kind of off topic. But, do you get any static when you charge your ipod + play music through it at the same time? Or do you think that's just because of the charger that I have? It's so annoying -.-.

Ya I know EXACTLY what you are talking about but it only happens when it is charging. Sometimes I get these little lines rolling down the screen. What I do is twist the a/c adapter clockwise and it goes away. Try that.

Hmmm, i try that but it never gets rid of it. I guess I'll try a different charger. Or maybe find some coated wires that shields away interference.

Question How did you get video?

I've been looking into something like this. I have a iPhone 3GS and it will not
output video when playing music or using Google Maps.

Is this an iPhone 4GS feature or did you have to jailbreak your phone?

I'd sure like to see an adapter box that controls the phone and allows for showing
what the iPhone is displaying. Album covers, etc.

Thanks,

Mick

Mick,

What firmware are you running on your iphone 3Gs? Yes, it does require a jailbreak and an app called tvout2 which is free. Once you install tvout2, you will be able to see everything that you do on your iphone including album covers, navigation, etc.
