Can I get NAV for my Non-NAV? My friend has the Disc

Hello I have a 2008 G35X sedan and I believe it does not have Navigation but it has the in-dash LCD. My friends have been telling me that it's possible for me to just use his 2008 G35 Navigation DVD/CD and I can get the Navigation to be installed.

I'm not so sure if it will work because I've heard it has to be touchscreen and contain a few extra buttons like "Map". Also, I don't know if there really is a hard drive in my car. But then again, I thought it might work because there's that fin shaped thing on the top of my car and he said that might be where my navigation transceiver module is at.

So, if placing the DVD into my non-nav unit doesn't work, what are some of the best alternatives to putting navigation (and possibly rear view camera)? Thanks!

I'm probably sure there was already a solution to this but I cannot search the forums on my phone for some reason but thanks for your time.

Negative, not possible.

The Infiniti GPS System is hard drive based, not DVD Disk based. You don't have a hard drive in your car. It is almost impossible to retrofit a factory navigation system into your car without spending LOADS of money and effort. You will need Many part, wires, harnesses, etc. Also the Fin on your roof is not the GPS antenna, that is for your Radio and XM Radio.

Your best bet is to just get a window mounted GPS unit

A few people have added carpc's to get nav capabilities. Can be done, but won't be cheap.

Thank you both for answering my question. I also went to best buy the other day and they said they don't even have a double din conversion kit. So, I guess either I wait for a double din for my 08 g35x to be available or get a carpc? Hmm may you please elaborate on what exactly a carpc is, generally costs, and is capable of doing?

Thanks

i doubt they'll ever do a double din kit for our cars because you'd be removing the climate control brain with the stereo.

as far as a car pc, basically it's a small computer that you can install to run gps software on. i installed one and basically i added a touchscreen overlay to my stock LCD and i run the garmin GPS software on the computer. i'm very happy with it. some members even just pipe their iphone or android into the screen and use google maps or navigon. other members installed a garmin GVN brain and used it on their LCD.

here are some threads that demonstrate what i'm referring to, just let us know if you have questions.
