Akebono brakes weight...

i posted this question in other threads and never got an answer, so i figured i'd make my own since i'm sure people are curious of this too. I have the stock sport brakes now, and i just wanted to know how much heavier the akebono g37 sport brakes are than mine. i'd love to upgrade, but if its going to add 50 lbs to my car, then i don't want to upgrade lol. like 5lbs. per corner i can handle, no big deal. so if anybody knows the weight difference of the brakes i would appreciate it. thanks

It's going to be more than 5lbs for sure. The change from 13 to 14" in rotor size will be easily more than 5lbs

i think i came across a thread regarding the weight of the akebonos here and they are quite hefty and will add a good amount of weight. i have yet to install mine but the problem is, i dont have a scale that will measure that kind of weight

Dude... you're in IL. What are your plans for the winter months?
I assume you have a winter setup?

I'm asking cause I'm on the BBK fence but I know my 17" Blizzak setup wont clear the brakes.
I was curious how you have planned around this.

Thanks

I got the rotors in on Friday and it was over 70lbs for the box. I dont think the calipers are much but the rotors are heavy as hell.

17s definitely won't work.
..& then there's the added offset.
The OE sport 18s need spacers to work.

I'd love to rock these, but I'd have to sell the OE sports & the winters.

unfortunately, i had and still have to pony up more money. the tires from the G37 rims now have been transferred to my Volks. i have to buy Alpins or Blizzaks for the G37 rims this coming winter.

That's wihtout the calipers too. I saw a pic of the Akebonos next to the coupe Brembos and they were significantly larger than them.

Don't forget about the spare tire too
