So I tried to run 225/40/18's on my 2007 sport sedan, as opposed to OEM 225/50/18

they fit fine on the wheels, felt good, however after a few miles pretty much my whole control panel lights up, Brakes, VCD, ABS they all come on!

the tire shop checks the code the comp is running and its that the system is detecting the wrong tire size! apparently this can cause a slew of issues with the abs system

I know there are some of you who have custom larger wheels or are running different tire sizes is there a remedy for this? dealer says it cannot be overriden, but we all know dealers. . ..

 

why would you run a 225/40/18 on a oem sport? I am assuming you only changed the front tire size and left the rear the stock 245/45/18?

 

ahhh yes just the front set rears are stock size

 

Google 'tire size calculator' to help you figure out the appropriate tire size to match OEM circumference.

 

Your front and rear tires can't have more then a 3% (i believe) difference between the two, in respect to their circumference. If the difference is more then 3% the traction control (VDC/TCS) will think the wheels are slipping because the turning rate of the smaller tires will be higher then the larger tires. If you turn off your VDC it should stop flashing. But this means you won't have any type of traction assist if you end up needing it.

Do a search, this is a very common issue, and i'm sure someone else has posted more in detail about this.

 

With aftermaket rims/tires, people usually try to run tires with diameters that are about the same, front and rear (and hopefully roughly the same diameter as OEM to keep the speedo fairly accurate). IMO, 1-2% off won't hurt much (unless you have an X), but your setup is too much.

A 225/40/18 tire is 6% smaller in diameter as the 245/45/18. That's a lot. It is also rotating over 6% faster than your rear.

 

You're fronts are way to small compared to the rears and the car probably thinks your wheels are losing traction....like everybody else mentioned.

 

Not to mention any problems, but you probably just created an even bigger front gap?

You have to either go smaller in the rear to match the front (which would be stupid if it is stock height) or go back to factory size up front.

 

I'm getting to replace my stock tires on a 07 Sedan with sport package, looking for a all season sport tire and thinking about the Goodyear Eagle GT's from Tire Rack
225/45/18
245/45/18

I noticed the stock fronts are 225/50 18 and the Goodyear Eagles don't come in that size, will this be a problem going to a 45 vs stock 50 on the front or do I need to stay with the 50's on the front to keep from having problems with the VDC

I have Goodyear Eagle F1s with the 225/45/18 in the front. no problems in terms of VDC or anything like that, seems to run just fine. They do make the front wheel well look substantially larger than the back because the wheel gap is much larger. Also, I HATE the Goodyears because of obnoxious road noise and I'm switching to Michelin PS2s this week and going back to the correct 225/50 size on the front

 

Wait!!!!! Could you try this before you done anything???

Check yur Brake Fluid! if it's lower than MAX level.
Fill it up with Dot3 Brake Fluid
Take a hard drive 5-10 minute.
Shut off engine and restart.
There should be no light!!!

Try!!!

 

One of my rears is flat so I plan to replace both the rears. I want to eventually go w/ the 235-50-18 and 255-45-18 setup people recommend to give me more tire options. My question is, if i were to replace the rears to 255-45-18 and leave the OEM fronts, will it give me problems?
