update - sweet there's a TSB for front brake squeal/squeak noise on the Sport Model brakes. The other one for shudder/vibration is for the Journey/X brakes. It seems likt the S rotors hold up much better and don't warp so easily. I'm heading to Austin Infiniti now to buy some rear pads and get them to schedule me to get the front pads/hardware changed accordingly with this TSB. You guys rock!

AJ, try reconsidering doing the rear pads yourself. It'll take you longer to jack the car up than to replace the pads itself. The rears are a cinch compared to the fronts.

mike^ yea I know, I've opened up the rears before and went to change them but found the pads to still have a good amount of meat on them - it wasn't very hard. I just don't have anywhere to do it (I'm living in a fraternity house and park on a concrete slab on the side of the house haha). And I'd rather have a true "expert" do it for me, however "expert" those guys are haha. I'm gonna get it done at a local shop, not the dealer.

So here's the story - Austin Infiniti is AWFUL. I went to buy rear pads, get to the cashier and its $110!! So I say woah woah, I can get these for $80 in houston tomorrow so either you can match it or I'll get em there. 5 minutes later I get a new invoice for $80. So that was a success.

Then I went to the service advisor, told him I know he wants to charge me $220 to do my rotors, but I'd rather have it fixed under the TSB. Obviously he didn't know what I was talking about, so I gave him my printout. He looked at it, confused, for like 5 minutes. Looks to see when it came out, what it was. Then proceeds to tell me its not for my car. I'm like uh.... then he goes outside and looks at the back of my car. At this point I know he's looking for a badge (what an idiot, doesn't know what kind of car I have - I WAS THERE YESTERDAY!!). He comes in says, nope, this isnt for your car. It's for the sport. I'm like yeah I know I have the sport.... He says that usually the car has a sign on the back that'll say "G thirty seven SPORT" and that mine is just a car with a "wheel package" (Coupe 19s...?). I say well first off my car is a g THIRTY FIVE, and second I debadged it. He says well no sorry it's not for this car. I tell him to stop arguing with me that it's not a sport, I tell him to look at the brakes, the fascia, etc. He has no clue what I'm talking about, tells me to slow down and chill out (I'm arguing loudly with him at this point), so goes and types into his computer and says oh well it says you're a Journey 5AT with premium package.... and sport.... he looks up whether sport means sport package..... After 10 minutes of arguing and him telling me it's all because I didn't machine my rotors, I got an appt to get the TSB performed next Thursday haha.

Sorry for ranting. I just think if you WORK at an Infiniti dealer as your job, you should know the difference between the different models. Oh, and not commit highway robbery by taking advantage of uninformed customers, but I guess that's too much to ask.

I'll update later if the TSB fixes it. New pads and hardware apparently

ugh i know, but they're the only infiniti dealer in austin....
I would go to nissan, but especially if I'm dealing with a TSB I doubt I can. Maybe cancel with him and go with another service advisor? I'm planning on getting to the back and watching the work as they do it, say I don't feel comfortable or something

haha I KNOW! I was like so they decided I need new rotors? He's just like no, thats to get them resurfaced. hahaha Ridiculous. 440 to resurface... thats like >1/3 of the Akebonos!

ha! I'm back at Infiniti for my appt, and the service advisor that I was arguing with last time isn't here today and there's no record of an appt to me - typical. I'll probably be talking to the manager at some point about that guy - Dave at Austin Infiniti.

So I waited a half hour for another advisor, told him what happened. He says they'll check out this "TSB" in the back and didn't seem to believe that it says to do brakes and hardware but oh well. We'll see what happens with the car, he also WON'T replace pads without resurfacing my rotors for a cool $220. That's so ridiculous, I feel like it shouldn't be legal to do that....There's a good chance your rotors are fine and don't need any work. Especially since you'll probably change them the next time you get pads done anyway - so I'll go to brake check or something for the rear pads.

I'm about to go back there and see what they're doing on my car. Gotta tell them to torque everything TO SPEC, none of that impact wrench ****

- UPDATE - they got the TSB, it includes pads and shims and they're doing that for now
