Question Akebono retainer re-build

Hi guys I've recently installed the Racing brake 2-piece rotors and also replaced the brake pads. Now when i put the pads back together with the retainer clip I did it like in the pic below.

Now which way is the correct way? because I've seen it being done the other way around like in the below pic

So which way is the correct way? Any help would be appreciated

would have to see the retainer in person to tell u exactly since i dont have the akebono's myself, but going by the pics the second one looks more "secure" and right since the outer metal clips are actually pushing onto the pads.

Yeah it looks like it, but I found a diagram somewhere showing it should be done the way I did it.

I think I'll have to change them around, if anyone with Akebono's could give me feedback I'd appreciate it.

^ ya its better to wait and get an answer from someone who has these and can tell u definitely before you change it back, especially since u found a diagram showing that you did it the right way.

I don't have Akebono's but pic 2 definitely definitely looks proper. If you look at the bends in the metal, they are not there for nothing. Pic 1 looks totally awkward.

Yeah I know what you mean, but supposedly the way I've done it is how it states in the service manual.

Here's a link: https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...-07-g-z-3.html

The odd thing is that in the FSM diagram the clips on the side seem to be facing down (like in the second pic),

but where the pin enters the retainer it looks like how I've done it. So it's a bit confusing,

I've been running my Akebonos like how I have it pictured about for around 6-8 months and so far no problems at all, so I might just keep them how they are

Maz, it's the second pic. Those 4 small clips on the side have to point down.
