Those "grey foamy connectors" are just the cables that actuate the door lock and release from the door handle & lock. If you look at where they connect to the panel they are just cables with barrels on the end and it you turn the cables away from the panel there is a slot the cable can slide out of and release from the door panel. THen the panel is fully released. This may not make sense until you look at it and its super simple.

Kinda similar to brake cables releasing from brake levers on bicycle if you ever worked on these.

Thx for clarifying Kregg. I guess I should have paid closer attention to how it removes. I just quickly looked at it and I was unfamiliar with it.

Also since I was able to remove the trim without removing the entire door panel aided my incompetence. LOL It did make my life harder doing it that way though.

Will check it out again when I do the other doors.

It will be similar.
The shift **** has a clip to remove though.

nice thread. Just what I was looking for as I'm thinking of doing a custom trim. How hard is it to remove the trim. I'm a noob to all this stuff.
