DIY: Clutch Fix #2 - Oh what a feeling :)
This pic is from the 1st gen clutch takeup adjustment mod. Isn't that the spring in the pic. In ours it is kind of perpendicular to the clutch rod--in this pic, it looks like it is parallel--if that is the clutch spring that is.

BTW, this 1st gen mod will not work with our 2nd gens. I think with Ian's DIY clutch fix #1 and #2, you will be very pleased though.

I've already done clucth fix #1 (well I just added 2 pennies) and I want to ensure none of these 3 different types of clutch adjustments conflict.
hi guys. i did this mod on my 08 sport. worked great right after i removed it. Pedal stroke felt almost identical to stock... maybe 1/4" more of slop at the top... but after a day, seems like the pedal stroke got shorter... so there is about 1" of slop at the top and barely any travel w/ resistance. So it's not the same as the first day. What's going on? is there a fix for this? Thanks.
After contemplating this mod for awhile, i finally did it this morning. After some struggle getting the clip off the end of the spring, i got it out.
Took it for a drive and immediatly noticed a difference. It is a smidgen harder to depress now, but not that bad, and the feeling is extremely different. Way more linear now and feels like a clutch should feel.
Im hardcore not used to it, but im gonna drive the car for awhile and see if i get used to it.

For those that have removed their spring, can you do me a favor and take a measurement of the free length, and inner diameter.
The pics in the first post look very similar to the pedal setup in the 370z/g37 6mt's. I set up a group buy for replacement weaker springs on myg37 for those that still wanted to have some spring force to push the pedal back up and to eliminate the slop/play present at the top of the pedal when no spring is present. See http://tiny.cc/9t87cw if interested.

^^Sure thing. From the pics i've seen of the 2nd gen g35 pedal, it appears the same, but it's important to confirm.
To pop the spring out takes all of about 30 seconds and a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the LOWER (no need to pull the upper) C clip. Using vernier calipers or similar, take a measurement of the above two parameters.
Thanks!

Ok, so I just measured the spring with my trusty dial caliper and came up with the following measurements for my factory spring:
Free length = 61mm or 2.40"
Outer diameter = 31mm or 1.22"
Inner diameter = 22mm or .865"
Spring wire diameter = 4.3mm or .17"
Total number of coils* = 7
Number of active coils* = 5
* per reference: http://www.planetspring.com/pages/co...calculator.php
I also measured the diameter of the spring perch/seats and came up with approx: 21.5mm or .845"

vqsmile,
Thanks for confirming and including *all* measurements
This is indeed the same spring as they used on the later models. Mainly what I was after was the ID and the free length. The replacement spring is slightly longer by .10", but works just fine. The ID was important because too small and the hat won't fit inside, and if too big, it may shift when the pedal is depressed/released.

Your car is a 2nd gen g35 6mt, correct?

^?? ... this whole thread is about ppl who tried this and posted reviews, read the pages. and since u have 07 coupe it may be a bit different. If you are talking about replacing the spring then its about the same thing but a weaker scale
