DIY: Clutch Fix #2 - Oh what a feeling :)
FWIW, I'm perfectly happy with the spring completely off. Pedal returns completely; no slack on top at all. Much better feel when shifting. What more could I ask for? /DONE
VQ, have you done other pedal modifications such as lowering the uptake point or other adjustments to the pedal rod length?
On mine, I had about 1/4 - 3/8" of play with no spring, and it bothered me. I didn't want to mess with adjusting those rods in fear of possibly not having enough play, resulting in a clutch that's not fully engaged. High uptake doesn't both me a whole lot, my old car started grabbing with the pedal nearly 80% off the floor.

I removed my spring and adjusted the travel of my pedal (front and back) a while ago, but like most I have a bit of play at the top now. Hopefully this new spring will eliminate without removing too much feel... waiting or reviews.
NYT, if you have a 1st gen g35, I don't think the lighter spring will fit. The pic you reference in post #106 looks nothing like the pedal arrangement in the newer/gen 2 cars.

Assuming in the older cars, the spring serves a similar function as it does in the newer ones, then it makes sense to surmise that its removal or replacement with weaker weaker will improve pedal feel.
Edit: @Vqsmile; When i first tried springless, I had very little play, not enough to even bother with. After a few days of driving (keep in mind, brand new car), things loosened up enough to where the play became bothersome. So who knows.. Since these pedals are all adjustable, perhaps some are adjusted differently than others from the factory.

I brought my car home on Saturday, and after driving it home (and after test driving several G35 6MT's) I was a little concerned about the clutch. It just felt strange how it felt... That day I looked at the clutch pedal and saw that spring. I pressed the clutch in and out and couldn't figure out what it did. Did not appear to do anything. That is when I started google searching and came across this thread.
I took the spring off last night, and man, what a difference. This is what a clutch is SUPPOSED to feel like. WTF Nissan?
I do notice the 1/4" of play like others mentioned. No big deal though, minor movement.
HUGE improvement!

I read this full thread yesterday and did this mod today. I love it so far! Big thanks to OP, and thanks to everyone else to did it, liked it, and shared their experience. I have had the G for 5 days now, and still couldn't get smooth shifts unlike many previous MT's until this mod.
I may even do clutch fix #1 in addition but this is great by itself!

For those that have removed their spring, can you do me a favor and take a measurement of the free length, and inner diameter.
The pics in the first post look very similar to the pedal setup in the 370z/g37 6mt's. I set up a group buy for replacement weaker springs on myg37 for those that still wanted to have some spring force to push the pedal back up and to eliminate the slop/play present at the top of the pedal when no spring is present. See http://tiny.cc/9t87cw if interested.

I've got an 07 6MT. I just wanted to say thanks to you guys for this fix. I happened to run across this thread after a little searching. I did clutch fix #2 in maybe 5 minutes and WOW. With the initial takeoff my response was 'night and day difference!"
I can't believe I've been driving for almost four years dealing with something with such a quick fix. I can actually feel the take-up point. Even regular shifts are smoother and now 'normal'. If anything, I had adjusted my shifting / clutch action versus another old manual I have to be slower and more methodical with the G. Now everything is normal again. Clutch feels like it's supposed to feel.
Thanks again. Shaking my head that it took me so long but I am sooo happy..
