+1 on TB cleaning, but according to my dealership, there's a special coating on the TB so be extremely careful of using too much TB cleaner or scrubbing too hard. Anyway, my fluctuating idle and "hard to start" problems went away after they cleaned the TBs.

They even took a before and after pic.
After: When viewed straight on, you can see a perfect, thin ring of light when the TB plate is closed.
Before: The ring of light (and airflow) was blocked off in many sections by the nasty deposits.

Just crossed 40k last night on my '06 as well. I'm wondering if I should clean mine when it gets warmer....from these pics I dug up a few weeks ago, it looks like could use a cleaning, yet my idle is rock solid

G35s-Dude, throttle response is definitely better. It's not faster, just much smoother.

The harness is located towards the dash on the TB. You can kinda see it on a couple of those pics.

It's really simple. I cleaned the TB on my dad's 02 pathfinder with the old spring loaded throttle lever style TB. Now that's really messed up lol

since the tar and carbon deposit is due to the crankcase vent, can we just disconnect the hose and vent it in the atmosphere or a catch can. i remember doing this on my celica and civic back in the days. will it work the same?

Thank you!

That was a great DIY and I will try it soon.

BTW, my G is 3 years old with 15,500 miles. Is it worth doing the TB cleaning at this point?

You definitely can. I haven't checked all the lines and hoses from the block to the intake but i'm assuming there are no sensors that would otherwise be triggered from doing so. Or you can simply stick an inline filter and still route it to the intake like this>

Cleaning TB is a must if you're living in the GCC, i cleaned mine today, and wow i really felt a difference, the car feels more smoother, better throttle response, rpm is pretty smooth, you really should clean them, you won't believe how dirty they are when i opened them.

I used WD-40, it cleans and lubricate, use the nosel to spray the shaft so that all the dirt inside the shaft that you can't reach well come out with the nosel spray pressure.

After i finished i turned the car on and the rpm jumped to 2500 and didn't drop down until i pressed the gas pedel, the it stuck at 1500 rpm, so i let the car to reach normal operating tempreture and i floored it for 2 runs, turn the car off, let it cool down, i started the car again, and the rpm was normal.

great !
but will (WD-40) do harm on the TB's speciall coating ?
WD-40 is kinda strong chemical , so it's better to use a special TB cleaner, i believe .
what do u think ?!

second . . should i disconnect the negative terminal before i do the cleaning ?

thank you Q8 for the important/useful topic

What special coating? we've been using fuel, WD-40 and carburetor cleaner age's ago, nothing happened to any of the TB we cleaned, as long as you use something that would lubericate the shaft you should be fine.

Go ahead guys, clean your TB and tell how much dirt and sludge you found in there, i was shocked for the amount of dirt i found after removing the TB, i've never seen anything like it before, and BTW it can be done without removing the TB, you can use a towel soaked in whatever clean you want to use and push the flap with your finger and clean it, don't worry about anything, i didn't d/c the battery, i didn't remove any cable or hose, and i pushed the flap wide open with my finger and cleaned it.
