I've started having this problem (just over 15K miles on the car) but if I let the clutch out and push it back in the noise stops. It's really, really loud sometimes but it's never been as loud as it was the first time it did it. I guess I have to take it in and see what's up. I haven't noticed any problems with going into gear though thankfully.

If I went down the road at sixty mph and shifted from 6 to 5 to 6 to 5 to 6 and so on, it grinded going to 6 EVERY TIME. BUT, it's all fixed now, and I'm happy again.
I'm playing three stikes with this tranny. Slave cylinder failure was 1, complete new trans was 2. Knocking on wood for no strike 3.

my '07 did this occasionally (the noise). i found that every single time i iturned off the engine, it would make this annoying rattling sound. i found out if i depressed the clutch when i shut the engine off the noise doesn't happen. i also had some problems with grinding into 6th. so far my '08 doesn't show signs of either problem.

Our car has been babied, and is only used for commuting duties. The dealer is working with Infiniti on it this time, to try and figure out just how to fix this, as I imagine they don't want to keep replacing transmissions every 4k miles. They have fully acknowledged that there is a problem though, which is good.
We are considering pursuing the lemon law due to days out of service. Moral of the story is, if your G35 is making a similar noise, don't hesitate to bring it in, as it is likely an internal transmission bearing that is damaged, and will be more likely to fail down the road.

Dealer just called to confirm that they are changing the transmission again. I asked for more details and the service adviser didn't know much, so I tasked him with finding out more about exactly what keeps going wrong, and why changing the entire transmission again will fix it this time where it didn't the first.
Looks like it will be another week and a half to get the transmission, then however long to fix it after that. Dealer (Luther Infiniti in Bloomington MN) has been good to work with throughout, but needless to say we are very frustrated at Infiniti at this point.
Did I mention that the loner G35 (2008 G35x with 5k miles on it) broke down on us during the last transmission change, leaving me stranded on the side of the highway for over an hour with my 5 year old son while I waited for roadside assistance to come tow me back down to the dealer to get a different loaner? Needless to say, our confidence in Infiniti is very low at this point.

Just a quick update. The dealer called back and left a message on my phone that basically states that Infiniti knows this is a problem and that most people just simply do not complain about it.
They then state that the only way to correct the problem is to change the transmission again and hope that the problem does not happen again.
So basically, there isn't a long term fix for this problem because the part has not been revised. I certainly am not comfortable driving a car with an internal transmission bearing making that much noise (a 40k + sports sedan should not sound like it's falling apart).
We are now pursuing the Minnesota lemon law on the basis of days out of service (over 30). Let me know if any of you would like to listen to the voicemail from Infiniti and I'll record it off of my phone.
