Thanks!

We did not use a law firm, just direct contact with Infiniti corporate. We did retain a lawyer in case of need, but it wasn't needed.

Fairly certain that we are going with a 2009 Saab 9-3. Test drove EVERYTHING and fell in love with this car. Excellent driving dynamics, and amazing value (especially now).

Regarding this transmission my shifter vibrates (idle and driving, neutral and in gear) since day 1 and the sales person sat me in a G37 that does the same thing so I accepted it. I've had no grind or noise so far but occasionally the stick pops out of 6th gear by it self with the lightest bump by my had without depressing clutch. had 6sp Max for years and never experience the issues like the G. It really scores low refinement points.

How can you sue for vibration, of which you knew about when you bought the car? And if it pops out of 6th with the 'lightest bump' it's not exactly popping out by itself....

Not to pile on the bandwagon, but I have to agree. Doesn't really seem like a problem so much as a design limitation. I tend to prefer the vibrating shifter (direct connection to transmission > linkage of some kind).

My noise is no cosistent at all

I have the "noise" sometimes, seems to be like when I'm just getting off the interstate or highway, I'll be sitting at a light, or just pulling into a gas station or at home and when you let off the clutch when its just idling its got a pretty bad clanking going on..... BUT sometimes its fine, when I went to the dealer to try and dup it I couldnt of course.
Anyone know if this is specifically the throw bearing? or what I can have them check to see if it needs to be replaced?
TIA

if its the infamous clutch chatter you're talking about then its normal and nothing much you can do but mine is not that noticeable as your description at all so would require more description to help you out.

well now with 4,700 miles on the ODO, my car has also developed the chattering. It's fairly noticeable and goes away when the clutch is pressed so I would assume it's the throwout bearing. This really needs to be investigated as a recall for defective hardware with so many complaining of the issue.

So it seams 03' to the current models, ALL have the same problem!! Mine has actually been pretty good lately, but still shows up every once in a while. This definitly sounds to me like it should be a recall or to a TSB, and I'd say 2 out of 10 of us w/ the problem actually call them and bitch. Maybe we should get some kind of petition deal going, like getting signatures or something to that effect....... Its almost embarassing sometimes when your at a light, or just sitting idleing and your car is clanking like a lawnmower ; (

This is not a problem it is normal, all 6mts make this sound it is the performance type flywheel chattering.

I just drove a new 6mt m3 last week and it made the same noise when the clutch was not depressed.

Check it out, not exactly the same noise but you can clearly hear the difference when the clutch is loaded and not loaded....

......

no.

I've owned plenty of manual's and if they are chattering when the clutch is not depressed it's an issue with the throwout bearing.

If it was normal it would have been making the noise for the first 4700 miles of the car's life.

That's not the chattering. That's a difference in the engine completely unloaded vs. having to turn the weight of the clutch/input shaft.

That's the normal sound mine made for the first 4700 miles. Now there's a metallic chattering that accompanies the engine noise.

Like I said the noise is perfectly normal for a performance car like ours. I talked to a tech about this a year ago and he told me Nissan uses a lighter flywheel on our cars as opposed to one that is used on a Maxima, my car makes the same noise, my co workers M3 makes the same noise and it has a dual plate clutch with a lighter flywheel, even his shifter vibrates.

Cars that have lighter flywheels than our cars our even louder when the clutch is not depressed. You just have to live with it, the car is raw, you feel the shifter shake, the fly wheel chatters these are traits that performance cars have, go drive a manual IS 250 with a clutch that is a perfect example of a muted flywheel.

What manual tranny cars have you owned in the past?

STI (1)
WRX (2)
240 (2)
330ci (1)
legacy (1)
Jetta (1)
200sx (1)

Of these only the STI would I consider a 'high performance' vehicle though certainly not with a light flywheel.

None of the above showed any characteristics like the G. I did some hunting around on unusual noise from a car with a light flywheel and came up with this link

http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/flywheel/gear_rattle.htm

notably:
The issue with gear rattle is that conventional lightweight flywheels retain the car's original solid-hub clutch disk. First, the lightened flywheel has less mass to damp the power pulse variations. Second, there is no mechanism within the solid-hub clutch disk to absorb the power pulse variations. The result is that a conventional lightweight flywheel with solid-hub clutch may create a noticeable amount of rattle. There is simply no cushioning action at all. Note that this gear rattle only occurs at idle, in neutral, with the clutch let out. It is not heard at any other time. Above idle (even just a couple hundred rpm) and the increased frequency of power pulses outpaces the speed at which the components couple/de-couple, therefore no rattle whatsoever.
Based on this description, I would comfortably say that sounds like the exact scenario. My only concern would be that this was very noticeable to me specifically occurring after 4700 miles on my car and never before that. If this is a common feature of a vehicle with a lightweight flywheel why would it not be reproduceable consistently and why did it take 4,700 miles to develop on my car?

edit: This is all a moot point as I just looked up the flywheel weight and am finding it's 28lbs. That's ANYTHING but lightweight.
