aftermarket exhaust and intake filters

I'm thinking about getting an aftermarket exhaust for my 08 G35 and was wondering what the best one out there is. I want one that isn't too loud, has nice HP gains, a nice sound (not ricey) and no drone. I know that's a long list, but I'm really picky when it comes to my car. Also, I was wondering the gains and the practicality of drop in aftermarket air filters and which ones are the best. Thanks for all the help.

It's a trade-off. You won't be able to get both nice HP gains and a quiet sounding exhaust.

I have the Fast Intentions cat back. It has dyno proven nice hp gains, but it is noticeably louder than stock. That said, many would argue that it's not a "loud" exhaust.

If you really want quiet, you should go for muffler only section exhausts like the Tanabe or brands like Fujitsubo which are fairly quiet. You should also listen to the sound clips on youtube. I'd say the FI exhaust clips on there are pretty accurate - you just have to turn the volume up if you want to get a sense for how it actually sounds in real life.

With respect to drop in filters, IMO, it's not worth the money at all. Stick w/ the stock filters. They filter better and are the equal of any drop in filter from a performance standpoint.

+1 keep stock filter.don't waste your money.Keep it for HFC.
If you don't like the loud noise.Just get the HFC's install alone without the whole cat back system. It's make out nice tone too.

Thanks for the help. How about the drone of the FI exhaust, and the whole warenty when you go to the dealer?

FI exhaust does have a resonance around 1800 rpm or so. However, since the car usually revs higher than that on the highway, it's not excessively loud.

That said, you WILL notice the sound more so than stock. I agree with earth0. If you really want some added performance but not as much noise, go with high flow cats only on stock exhaust.

Exhaust alone will not affect your warranty. Obviously, the exhaust system wouldn't be covered, but you wouldn't need it anyway because your stock exhaust is safely stored in your garage. Basically, the dealer cannot void your warranty unless the aftermarket part is responsible for the malfunction. So, if your nav system goes out or your sunroof malfunctions, or your transmission fails, the dealer can't blame it on your exhaust.

An example of how a mod can void your warranty is if you install aftermarket springs, then one of your shocks fail prematurely, they can deny your warranty claim. Arguably things like intakes and aftermarket air filters can also be a reason for the dealer to deny warranty on a malfunctioning engine or mass air sensor so I'd stay away from intake mods if you're concerned about warranty issues.

You can always throw back on your OEM parts before you go into the dealer.

I absolutely love my FI and I'd do it again in a second.

Do you get a drone at all on the highway or anywhere? And how loud is it inside the car? Do you have a sound clip?

bump: I'm sorry to say that I'm still skeptical about getting the FI exhaust. I can't find any clip of the exhaust from inside the car. Anyone live in the Orlando area with one?
