Angry Idle vibration

Hey guys,

I have posted about this before but I still can feel vibration in the drivers seat when the car is warm and idling. I feel it the most when the car is in drive, especially waiting at a light or just stopping as usual. I can feel the car being rough and its very annoying. The vibration isint that bad but its enough to drive you nuts after a while especially if you are driving in the city.

It does not do this all the time, sometimes its smooth and its either a hit or a miss with the vibration. I took it to the dealer last time and of course the car was smooth when they had it and they were unable to reproduce it. They said they adjusted the idle speed and initially I thought that solved it but a day later it came back. Does any one feel different levels of vibration when the car is warm and idling? Maybe its just me or maybe this is normal but somehow I doubt it. Its just very irritating and I am thinking of bringing it back to the dealer next week.

FYI, I am auto and I had the cold start TSB performed 15k miles ago. I have been living with this for the last 10k miles and I noticed that its gotten worse as the weather got colder.

I have a similar vibration issue... can feel it through the brake pedal when waiting at a stoplight. But it only seems to happen when I'm on a rough surface (asphalt which is wavy or lumpy). Maybe the vibration is coming from the rear differential if the rear wheels are not on a flat surface?

Hmm, I notice when it is VERY cold outside and the car is warming up at idle I get a pretty loud rattling from the back end (only hear it from outside). I believe it is the muffler rattling against the back bumper but I'm not sure. Goes away after the idle smooths out.

Same king of thing?

My car has a rough idle when It's from a dead cold start, it'll just be sitting there and it'll kinda like shudder, it does away after it warms up.

But that's not an issue with '08 model, right?

Maybe it's just the "lack of refinement" the car magazines complain about. I'll mention it on my next service visit (along with the rattling noise of the intake on high RPM upshifts).

I'm experiencing the same thing at Idle, when I start the car (when it's not warmed up).

I hear this vibration when I have the brake pedal on, at stop lights.

But it seems to go away after the car's warmed up.

Any body know the reason of this problem?

when you say vibration, is the idle speed changing? Mine will vibrate when the idle drops below 650rpm (nominal idle rpm), otherwise it is smooth.

Mine is a 5AT ....

After searching looks like it has something to do with the fuel damper ... ? not sure what that is ....

I'm wondering how much will that cost to replace..

From: Waltham Ma,
Funny my car does this on and off and sometimes it hard starts in the AM. The idle was so bad once the car was shuttering while driving. But like I said only does it here and there..

How many miles does everyone have when this started? I have 68K and it just started about 2 weeks ago. I notice it whether the car is hot or cold and isn't related to starting. When the idle drops to 600, I notice it the most. When I stop the car, the idle will settle at 650rpm then drops to 600rpm in a few seconds. The dealers initial recommendation is to have the throttle bodies cleaned as they recommend doing so every 30K miles. I pulled the intake off and the TBs don't have any carbon prior to the butterfly however appear to have some behind. I also noticed the butterflies are slightly open when the car is off. The dealer (service guy) said the carbon keeps the butterflies from sealing and therefor can affect the idle. Sounds fishy because I would think the butterflies need to remain slightly open to allow some air flow for starting and idling. Any ideas?

I am wondering if it is either a software issue or maybe a sensor issue. Some that have bought the Bully Dog have said that their idle issues have gone away. Seem strange though that this problem just developed.

From: Waltham Ma,
Maybe if the bully guys have had it go away. Mine had been there since I hit 5k in miles but isn't all the time and I know if I bring it to the dealer it will be NCF..
